Kolmar Korea Launches Second Factory in the U.S. for K-Beauty Products

Kolmar Korea Launches Second Manufacturing Facility in the U.S.

On July 22, 2025, Kolmar Korea announced the grand opening of its second manufacturing plant in the United States, a landmark development for the company and the K-beauty industry. This new facility, situated in Scott Township, Pennsylvania, spans an impressive 17,805 square meters and boasts an annual production capacity of 120 million units. Combined with the original facility, Kolmar can now produce 300 million units annually in the United States alone, making it a significant player in the North American cosmetic market.

With the shifting landscape of international trade and the complexities of tariffs, this facility plays a crucial role in establishing a duty-free zone for K-beauty products in the U.S. market. Yoon Sang Hyun, Vice Chairman of Kolmar Group, emphasized during the opening ceremony the strategic importance of the facility: “The United States is where Kolmar's journey began a century ago. This factory isn’t merely a production site; it symbolizes a new vision for innovation and partnership.” He elaborated on the company’s aspirations to create a hub of cosmetic manufacturing in North America, collaborating with various partners within the beauty value chain.

The newly completed facility will not only enhance Kolmar's production capabilities but also specialize in high-demand categories such as skincare and sunscreen products. This aligns with the increasing demand for cosmetics in the U.S., especially for K-beauty items which are gaining traction among consumers. Notably, Kolmar Korea has acquired FDA licensing to manufacture over-the-counter sunscreen products, facilitating its entry into the competitive U.S. market.

Kolmar's commitment to quality is evident in the factory’s design, which incorporates advanced technology and quality control measures modeled after their facility in Sejong, South Korea. With 80% of the production fully automated, the plant employs cutting-edge artificial intelligence to optimize processes and minimize defect rates, ensuring a product of the highest caliber.

During the inauguration, attendees included state representative Bridget Kosierowski and nearly 100 other guests, signifying the local community's support for Kolmar's expansion. The event highlighted Kolmar Korea's pioneering approach and reinforced its unique position as the first Korean cosmetic company to establish its plant directly in the U.S. rather than acquiring an existing facility.

This advancement is particularly vital as Kolmar aims to mitigate the risks associated with tariffs on imported cosmetics while offering a robust local production option for both Korean and global brands wishing to expand into the U.S. market. A spokesperson from Kolmar Korea stated, “We are ready to support K-beauty brands entering the American market. Our network and ecosystem of collaboration are primed for rapid expansion.”

As Kolmar Korea embarks on this new chapter, the company not only reinforces its foothold in the highly competitive beauty industry but also positions itself to respond swiftly to the burgeoning interest in K-beauty across the globe. This strategic move is set to further complement the existing manufacturing framework in North America, catering to the needs of consumers while setting new standards for quality and accessibility in the beauty market.

Kolmar Korea is optimistic that this facility will serve as an essential base for navigating U.S. trade regulations while simultaneously establishing a stronghold for K-beauty products, thus contributing to the larger narrative of the growing global influence of South Korean cosmetics. The ongoing support and interest from global clients, as well as local partnerships, signal a promising future for Kolmar and the K-beauty industry as a whole in North America.
