Machu Picchu Exhibition: A Journey into Ancient Andean Civilization
Japan is set to host the much-anticipated Machu Picchu exhibition, scheduled from
November 22, 2025, to
March 1, 2026, at the Mori Arts Center Gallery located in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. This remarkable event is facilitated by the Machu Picchu Exhibition Executive Committee, led by NEON JAPAN, under the directorship of Weichung Cheng. With an impressive track record from previous shows, including the highly successful exhibition at the Boca Raton Museum in the USA, which drew over
540,000 visitors globally, this exhibition marks the first time it will be presented in Asia.
Following a hiatus of
13 years since the last Inca Empire exhibition in Japan, the Machu Picchu exhibition promises to immerse guests in the glory of the ancient Andes civilization. Officially sanctioned by the Peruvian government, the exhibition will feature approximately
130 invaluable cultural artifacts, many of which are being displayed for the first time outside Peru. This includes exquisite artworks and ceremonial items that provide insight into the aesthetic and intellectual achievements of ancient Andean societies.
Visitors can look forward to breathtaking pieces, including golden decorations discovered in royal tombs and ritual instruments used in temple ceremonies. These artifacts will serve as windows into a world rich in history and mystery, allowing attendees a rare opportunity to experience the ancient Andes civilization up close.
In addition to the artifacts, the exhibition will feature a state-of-the-art immersive space that recreates the world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site of
Machu Picchu. Additionally, the exhibition will narrate the grand tales of
Ai Apaec, the hero of Andean mythology, drawing attendees into an intellectual adventure unlike any before.
This is the second installment in a series of history exhibitions created by NEON, following the much-acclaimed Ramses II Exhibition, which showcased around
180 treasures from the reign of Egypt’s most illustrious pharaoh, drawing immense public interest. With each event, NEON aims to produce not just displays of artifacts but
experiential cultural exhibitions that engage and captivate audiences through overwhelming presentation and storytelling.
