In a spectacular display of skateboarding prowess, Toa Sasaki claimed second place in the Men's Skateboard Street finals during the World Skateboarding Tour (WST) World Cup held in Rome from June 1 to June 15, 2025. This prestigious event, organized by the governing body of skateboarding, World Skate, brought together elite skaters from around the globe, competing against the breathtaking backdrop of the iconic Colosseum.
Toa Sasaki, an 18-year-old talent from Mie, Japan, entered the finals as a strong contender, having built momentum from his previous victory at the World Skate Games Italy 2024. His skill, determination, and innovative tricks made him a standout throughout the competition.
During the finals, Sasaki strutted his skills amidst a fierce lineup of eight of the world's top street skateboarders, including Olympic champions and X Games medallists. The atmosphere was electrifying as the skaters pushed each other's limits, vying for a spot on the podium.
Sasaki's performance peaked during the Run section, where he executed a flawless line on his second run, impressively scoring 92.86 points. His repertoire included breathtaking maneuvers such as a bank to rail backside noseblunt slide, a 360 kickflip off a bump, and a huge backside 360 over the centerpiece to flat.
But it was in the Best Trick section where Sasaki truly showcased his creativity. He executed a gap-out Caballerial to fakie nosegrind on the Hubba ledge with stunning precision, earning an outstanding score of 95.07 points on his first attempt. This allowed him to finalize the competition with an impressive total score of 187.93 points, securing him a well-deserved second place in this highly competitive season opener of the WST.
The finals concluded with Giovanni Vianna from Santo Andre, Brazil, achieving a total score of 180.81 points, which placed him fourth despite his remarkable performance. Vianna thrilled the crowd with a never-before-seen trick, a gap-out Caballerial to switch backside Smith grind, scoring 96.93 points for his trick, marking it as the fourth-highest in WST history.
