VinFast's Strategic Push Towards Smart Manufacturing and Diversified EV Portfolio

VinFast's Innovative Approach to Sustainable Growth

As the global electric vehicle (EV) industry transitions to a more structured phase aimed at improving efficiency and profit margins, VinFast is carving out a definitive strategy for both U.S. and international markets. During a recent earnings call, Chairwoman Madame Thuy Le outlined the company's roadmap focusing on scaling operations, optimizing costs, and leveraging technologies to navigate this transformational phase.

Strategic Priorities for Growth

Madame Thuy emphasized that scaling and unit cost optimization will be pivotal levers for profitability in the coming years. To achieve this, VinFast plans to make targeted investments to broaden its overseas presence while advancing the commercialization of next-generation vehicles. Collaborations with industry partners will also play a vital role, particularly regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within its EVs and manufacturing systems, ultimately reducing total ownership costs for consumers.

Smart Manufacturing: The Engine for Profitability

Smart manufacturing has long been recognized as an essential driver of operational efficiency and cost containment across various sectors. VinFast is actively aligning itself with global best practices by collaborating with VinRobotics, an affiliate of the Vingroup ecosystem. VinRobotics specializes in intelligent robotics and automation systems, incorporating AI technologies into complex operational frameworks. This results in heightened automation rates on assembly lines, improved quality consistency through real-time monitoring, and increased production throughput as the scale grows, enabling long-term structural cost reductions. By embracing these technologies, VinFast is not only boosting efficiency but also crafting a scalable cost structure necessary for competing within the U.S.'s price-sensitive EV landscape.

Expanding EV Offering

VinFast has strategically rolled out its lineup across three distinct brands, each tailored for specific market segments. The VF series serves as the company's main offering within the U.S. and other global markets. Committed to meeting the daily transportation needs of consumers, these vehicles are developed emphasizing high-quality production, inclusive pricing to facilitate accessibility, and exemplary aftersales service.

The portfolio comprises a diverse array of vehicles, stretching from the compact VF 3 to the spacious VF 9 and including the seven-seat MPV VF MPV 7, ensuring that various customer requirements are met.

The Green brand segment zeroes in on optimizing fleets and ensuring operational efficiency. It offers purpose-built electric vehicles designed for logistics and ride-hailing enterprises, targeting the rising need for electrification in these sectors.

At the luxury end of the spectrum, Lac Hong signifies VinFast's foray into ultra-luxury EVs, uniting Vietnamese artistry and craftsmanship with superior hospitality. Following the debut of the Lac Hong 900 LX in 2025, two new models, the 800S and 900S, were unveiled in March 2026, with plans for a 2027 launch.

This tiered branding strategy allows VinFast to service a broad spectrum of customers while ensuring clear differentiation among its product lines, a tactic increasingly adopted by leading global automakers.

Cost-Effective Innovation

A fundamental aspect of VinFast's optimization strategy is its new vehicle architecture. The forthcoming models, the VF 6 and VF 7, set for production in the latter half of this year, are engineered to minimize component counts and simplify system architectures. The new platform and upgraded electrical and electronic systems are aimed at significantly reducing the bill of materials (BOM) costs. This method of streamlining hardware complexity and embracing modular design is in line with prevailing industry trends towards software-defined vehicles and zonal architectures.

Such engineering reforms not only lower manufacturing costs but also enhance scalability across different models, facilitating quicker deployment of new features and software updates. In the U.S. market, VinFast has already launched two flagship offerings—VF 8 and VF 9. These vehicles underscore the brand’s dedication to high-quality standards, inclusive pricing, and top-tier post-purchase support.

Building a Nationwide Dealership Network

To further cement its presence in the U.S. market, VinFast is also building an expansive dealership network. This initiative ensures that vehicles are delivered efficiently and that localized service and support are available, a crucial element for fostering consumer trust in a competitive landscape. This dealer-based model marks a strategic shift from prior direct-to-consumer approaches to better align with established automotive retail practices in the U.S.

Advancements in Autonomous Technologies

The technological roadmap of VinFast extends far beyond manufacturing efficiencies, significantly encroaching into vehicle intelligence and autonomous driving capabilities. The company is making strides from Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Level 2+ and Level 2++ towards Level 4 (L4) autonomy, keeping a disciplined eye on capital allocation over the short term.

To hasten this shift, VinFast is establishing a comprehensive ecosystem that melds in-house capabilities with external collaborations. The company runs an internal ADAS research institute aimed at refining core technologies, while at the same time engaging with select technology partners to enhance its expertise further.

A remarkable example of VinFast’s strategy is its partnership with Tensor, an AI company aimed at developing personally owned L4 autonomous vehicles. In this strategic alliance, VinFast acts as the manufacturing and industrialization partner, highlighting a capital-efficient methodology that focuses on leveraging external innovation in AI while dedicating internal resources to large-scale production.

A Cohesive Mobility Strategy

In the grander view, VinFast’s enduring competitiveness is fortified by its vertically integrated technology development strategy. The company continues investing across its technological spectrum, enhancing ADAS and autonomous systems, perfecting smart services, evolving zonal architectures, and integrating AI-assisted manufacturing systems. Altogether, these initiatives create a unified strategy designed to get more value-added to products, boost operational efficiencies, and solidify VinFast's standing in the landscape of future mobility.

As competition intensifies globally, VinFast’s agility in merging scale, cost efficiency, and innovation will be paramount. With smart manufacturing as the core of its operations and technology serving as the distinguishing factor, VinFast is setting itself up not just as an EV manufacturer, but as a pioneering mobility platform. For consumers in the U.S., this evolution promises high-quality, affordable electric vehicles enriched by technology, ensuring an ever-improving ownership experience.
