Inland Empire Health Plan Deployed Free Mobile Health Clinics
In a significant initiative to enhance child healthcare services, the Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) has introduced free mobile clinics specifically aimed at delivering well-child visits. These clinics will operate at IEHP's Community Wellness Centers located in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Victorville, continuing through the month of April. This endeavor is conducted in collaboration with ULS AllCare, highlighting a commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare for all children within the program's eligibility criteria.
The well-child visits are vital to a child's development, functioning as essential preventative measures against potential health complications. This initiative includes a range of services: physical examinations, blood pressure screenings, eye assessments, fluoride treatments, and assessments for diabetic management. These services are available not just for scheduled appointments but also on a walk-in basis during designated clinic hours, accommodating the varying needs of families in the community.
Dr. Takashi Wada, the Chief Medical Officer of IEHP, emphasized the importance of these visits, stating that they should be as routine as brushing one’s teeth. He believes that education around health should begin early in life, ensuring that children reach their crucial health milestones with proper support from healthcare professionals. This sentiment was echoed by Delia Orosco, the Director of Community Wellness Centers, who remarked on the centers' mission to educate the community about the significance of maintaining good health. The success of the breast cancer mobile clinic series last year is a testament to the positive impact these clinics can have on overall community health.
The inception of this program stems from a fruitful pilot conducted last fall, wherein nearly half of the 100 scheduled appointments for a previous well-child clinic were fulfilled, allowing for personalized interactions between the children and healthcare providers. Tara Tokijkla, IEHP’s Director of Quality Improvement, shared insights regarding the importance of closing care gaps for members. She asserts that the mobile clinics are not only instrumental in connecting families to necessary health screenings but also play a crucial role in promoting preventive care from an early age.
