Collaborative Green Energy Solutions for Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025
In a groundbreaking initiative, four companies—T.N. Plan, KlimaDAO JAPAN, PBADAO, and JE FOREST—have come together to provide green energy solutions for the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025. This collaboration aims to support the Expo's carbon neutrality goals by offering a green fuel power generation system and a carbon offset service, specifically designed to cater to the high energy demands of the Expo's pavilions, exhibitions, and events.
The Osaka-Kansai Expo is set to showcase its commitment to sustainability through the establishment of a fundamental policy supporting a carbon-neutral approach, which was outlined in April 2022. The Expo organizers have emphasized the importance of adopting innovative yet feasible technologies that foster a circular economy and promote natural coexistence. Yet, with certain pavilions and events requiring significant energy, it has become crucial for operators to secure carbon-neutral power sources to meet the additional energy needs.
This is where the collaboration shines: the four companies are committed to delivering the following services for the Expo:
1.
Green Fuel Power Generation System: T.N. Plan is developing a groundbreaking system that utilizes green fuel synthesized from water and CO2 in the atmosphere to generate electricity. This cost-effective fuel, produced under normal temperature and pressure, is considered carbon-neutral since the CO2 emitted during combustion originated from the atmosphere during the fuel's creation. This not only ensures sustainable energy production but also contributes to the Expo's overall carbon neutrality objectives.
The process of generating green fuel and electricity involves utilizing advanced technologies, which T.N. Plan aims to promote through a partnership agreement with the city of Izumi-Otsu. This partnership will facilitate the implementation of the green power system at the Osaka-Kansai Expo venue.
2.
Tokenized Carbon Credit Offset Service: The carbon credit tokens, enabled by a smart contract called Carbonmark API, leverage public blockchain technology to issue ERC-20 compliant tokens that represent carbon credits. This ensures high transparency and ease of use for trading and offsetting carbon emissions.
A practical demonstration project is already underway involving 11 domestic companies and local governments collaboratively tokenize and trade J-Credits, which confirms the initiative's potential in revitalizing the carbon credit market. The success of this project was recognized with the Japan Financial Innovation Award 2025, highlighting its promise in facilitating more flexible climate change measures.
Additionally, the collaboration will provide services during the prestigious “5th Best of Mondial du Pain” competition at the Expo, where representatives from the top six finalists in the global baking competition will gather to compete. As one of the largest energy-consuming events during the Expo, it will leverage the green fuel power generation system and offset service to ensure all energy usage—from audiovisual needs to baking—remains carbon-neutral.
Looking ahead, the joint effort plans to expand its services with the Expo Association, increasing the number of pavilions and events that can benefit from these green energy solutions.
