Exploring Bitcoin's Future: Survey Insights on Its Next Decade

Understanding the Future of Bitcoin: Insights from a Recent Survey

In an ever-evolving financial landscape, Bitcoin remains at the forefront of discussions around cryptocurrency. Since its inception in 2009, Bitcoin has garnered global attention due to significant price fluctuations and its status as a leading digital asset. A recent survey conducted by Mediverse, a Web3 media outlet managed by For-it, aims to unveil the collective perspectives of the Japanese populace regarding the future and investment trends surrounding Bitcoin.

Survey Overview

The survey targeted adults aged 20 and above, comprising a sample size of 500 respondents from across Japan. Conducted on April 1, 2025, through online research, the results provide valuable insights into public perceptions of Bitcoin's investment viability and its anticipated future position.

Investment Insights on Bitcoin

The findings indicate that only 11.4% of participants currently invest in Bitcoin. A gender-based analysis reveals notable disparities, with 16.4% of men investing compared to just 6.4% of women, highlighting a male-to-female investment ratio exceeding 2.5 times. When examined by age brackets, the highest investment rate is seen among men in their 30s, where nearly one in four are reported to have made investments.

Furthermore, household annual income appears to significantly influence investment in Bitcoin. Those with an annual income exceeding 7 million yen exhibit a willingness to invest that is 2-3 times higher than their lower-income counterparts.

Future Predictions for Bitcoin

When asked to speculate on Bitcoin's position a decade from now, the most frequent response was 'uncertain' at 43.2%. Following this, 27.8% believe Bitcoin will remain a niche investment for enthusiasts, while 15.8% foresee its decline and inability to maintain current value.

There are also noticeable gender differences in these predictions. Over half of the female respondents indicated uncertainty about Bitcoin's future, compared to approximately 30% of males. Men expressed a greater expectation for Bitcoin to evolve into a safe-haven asset akin to gold, while women's uncertainty prevails.

Age also plays a vital role in these future expectations; individuals in their 20s, 40s, and 60s predominantly selected 'uncertain.' Conversely, the perception that Bitcoin will remain a hobbyist investment grows among older generations, peaking among respondents in their 50s at 37.0%, double the rate of those in their 20s at 17.0%.

Income level impacts respondents' views on Bitcoin's future markedly. The belief that Bitcoin will stagnate as an investment for enthusiasts is only more prevalent than uncertainty among the highest earners (1 million yen and above). In contrast, the lowest income bracket (under 3 million yen) shows the highest percentage of respondents anticipating a decline.

Concluding Thoughts

The survey highlights a cautious investment ethos towards Bitcoin, with investment levels barely exceeding 10%. Gender, age, and income significantly sway investment decisions and future predictions about Bitcoin. Despite the striking international economic factors that continually shape Bitcoin's landscape, the survey suggests a cautious outlook among the population.

As discussions about Bitcoin evolve, its potential future as a safe-haven asset or a niche investment platform remains a focal point of interest.
