Surprisingly, although about 70% of companies reported having adopted a Common Data Environment (CDE), more than 40% struggle with effective utilization. This indicates significant room for improvement in the integration and optimization of these systems.

However, it has been discovered that while CDE adoption is high, achieving effective use remains a lingering challenge. The survey was conducted from November 10 to 11, 2025, gathering insights from 1,019 respondents involved in construction DX.

The survey uncovered that traditional CAD data continues to dominate, highlighting a slower-than-expected integration of advanced BIM/CIM models. This underutilization of modern methodologies is likely due to differences in data formats across projects and varying levels of proficiency among users.

When asked, "Do you find your current methods of data sharing and management user-friendly?" 20.9% stated they found it very user-friendly, while 59.7% felt it was somewhat user-friendly. Conversely, 18.5% indicated it was somewhat challenging, and 0.9% claimed it was very difficult. This data reflects a mix of satisfaction and frustration among users, driven by operational inconsistencies and differing project rules.

Barriers to Effective Use

Some of the most significant obstacles identified were:

• - Inconsistent Tools and Methods: Many respondents noted that varying tools and means of communication hinder effective data sharing across projects.
• - Lack of Smooth Communication: Issues with effective communication and personalized management were prevalent, indicating a need for standardized operations.

Future Expectations for Data Management

Participants expressed a desire for quicker and more reliable information sharing processes. They emphasized the necessity for real-time data sharing integrated into a unified database to enhance operational efficiency. Furthermore, significant focus is required on developing standardized rules and improving operational practices.

The Key to Effective CDE Adoption

While 70% of firms reported having adopted CDE, effective deployment remains a common hurdle. Remarkably, about 20% are still evaluating their options for implementation. The primary reasons hindering successful adoption include:

• - High Learning Costs: A staggering 44.2% cited the steep learning curve as the leading barrier.
• - System Complexity: 31.8% mentioned system complexity, while 30.8% noted high implementation and operational costs.

Discovering organizational shortcomings, including insufficient internal understanding of CDE systems and the absence of clarified rules, further complicates the issue. Establishing a robust DX promotion framework within firms is crucial to overcoming these challenges.
