New Collection 'Suribachi': Embracing Daily Elegance and Functionality from DEAN & DELUCA

Embracing Culinary Artistry with 'Suribachi' Collection

DEAN & DELUCA, renowned for its exquisite product range, is set to unveil a new collection titled "Suribachi" on October 18, 2025. This innovative line focuses on multifunctional ceramic tools that enhance daily dining experiences. Collaboratively crafted by talented ceramic artists Michikazu Sakai and Akihiro Taniguchi, this collection embodies a seamless blend of practicality and aesthetic appeal.

The collection is not just about form but also about the narratives imbued in each piece. From the potter's hands to the dining table, every item tells a story, fostering a connection between the maker and the user. The initiative is directed by Tomoo Shoken, Representative of Utsuwa Shoken KAMAKURA, who brings his vast experience in promoting exquisite ceramics to this project. With this launch, DEAN & DELUCA hopes to spark a renewed appreciation for utensils that serve as an integral part of daily life.

Special Events to Celebrate 'Suribachi'

Before the official launch, a pre-event will take place, featuring a talk and cooking class on October 2, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at THE WINE STORE. Participants can engage with guest speakers and enjoy a live cooking demonstration by Executive Chef Tetsuya Sakai of DEAN & DELUCA, who will showcase various dishes using the newly introduced Suribachi.

In addition to the pre-event, other experiential workshops will be held throughout the collection's run, providing attendees a chance to interact directly with the Suribachi and learn from chefs about maximizing their utility in everyday cooking. Reservations for these events will start on September 19, 2025.

The Creativity of Ceramic Artists

The collection features Sakai's warm, organic designs and Taniguchi’s refined modern aesthetic, showcasing the versatility of Suribachi–a tool traditionally used for grinding ingredients like sesame and spices but designed to elegantly transition to serveware. Each piece is crafted to maintain its utility while enhancing table presentation, reinforcing the idea of working tools that glow with beauty.

Sakai, born in Nagano in 1975, trained under Bizen pottery master Masamune Sato. His works, made in wood-fired kilns, possess a unique ability to elevate various ingredients while presenting a luxury quality through deep bronze glazes. His artistry shines as he creates bowls that don’t just serve food but tell a story of craftsmanship.

Similarly, Taniguchi, whose journey began in 1970 in Kyoto, produces contemporary porcelain wares that marry beauty with functionality. He emphasizes durability and warmth, catering to the culinary enthusiasts who appreciate well-made kitchenware. His smaller Suribachi versions, ideal for creating dips and sauces, reflect his commitment to practical yet beautiful design. The pouring spouts added to these smaller bowls open up new culinary possibilities for dressings, lending ease to cooking routines.

A Celebration of Everyday Dining

The 18-centimeter Suribachi is perfect for single-serving dishes like noodles, allowing users to blend condiments and serve directly—a true multifunctional marvel. Larger pieces in the collection excel at serving salads or hearty entrees, ensuring every meal feels special.

With a focus on seasonal ingredients, the Suribachi introduces a fresh approach to everyday meals. From colorful salads sprinkled with herbs to nutrient-rich dishes, the collection diversifies any dining experience. The juxtaposition of rustic ceramic with vibrant ingredients invites guests to explore flavors in a new light, fostering a deeper connection to the joy of cooking, sharing, and celebrating food.

The launch will also coincide with a profound retail experience at DEAN & DELUCA Roppongi, where crafted ceramic pieces will be available for purchase from October 18-21, 2025. Each item is unique, reflecting the hands that shaped it.

The "Suribachi" collection redefines how we perceive kitchen tools, encouraging an appreciation for the craftsmanship involved in their creation. By bringing the maker's story to the forefront, DEAN & DELUCA is set to enrich dining experiences, allowing every meal to tell a tale of tradition, creativity, and careful thought.
