Osaka's Famous Unagi Restaurant Expands to Kanto with a Unique Style

Osaka's Unagi Delight Expands to Kanto

In a delightful move for sushi and unagi lovers, Osaka-based unagi dining specialist, Nedoko, has ventured into the Kanto region with the opening of its first location in Nakameguro, Tokyo, on December 25, 2024. Known for its mastery of Kansai cooking techniques, this restaurant promises a unique twist on traditional unagi dishes that are sure to impress local food enthusiasts.

A Taste of Kansai in the Heart of Tokyo

Originating from Shinsaibashi, Osaka, Nedoko has built a strong reputation since it first opened its doors in 2010. The restaurant prides itself on using only the finest Kiso San-gawa eel from Mie Prefecture, ensuring that customers receive only the best quality. This new establishment in Nakameguro aims to introduce the rich tastes of Kansai-style grilled eel, preparing dishes without steaming to highlight the full flavor and texture of the eel.

Unique Dining Experience

At Nedoko, the menu features approximately 25 different dishes, including their signature Unadon (grilled eel on rice) and Hitsumabushi, each showcasing the unique, flavorful preparation. The Unadon Tokusen, priced at 6,900 yen, is a standout, utilizing high-quality ingredients. Unlike the densely steamed Kanto style, the Kansai-style preparation offers a crispy outside and a fluffy inside, all enhanced by their special sauce that compliments the dish beautifully.

Savor the Skewers

In addition to rice dishes, patrons can indulge in various skewer options that let you sample different parts of the eel. Highlights include a mixed platter of five types (4,180 yen) and unique offerings like smoked eel (2,178 yen), rolled eel omelet (2,530 yen), and grilled eel (2,178 yen). Each dish showcases the skill of the craftsmen, ensuring an unforgettable dining experience.

What truly sets Nedoko apart is the focus on creating a delicate balance of flavors and textures. The homemade sauce is light and enhances the natural sweetness of the eel, making it a hit even among those who typically prefer Kanto-style dishes with their softer textures. Parents will be delighted to hear that children particularly enjoy the white grilled eel, which makes it a family-friendly dining option.

Seasonal Course Menus

For a more elaborate dining experience, Nedoko offers seasonal course menus. The Monthly Chef's Course (13,200 yen) includes various eel dishes, perfect for special occasions or business dinners. Guests can expect a carefully curated selection that may include grilled eel skewers, smoked eel, and more, served from 5 PM to 10 PM.

The Unadon-focused Chef's Course (13,200 yen) allows guests to enjoy the richness of the unadon along with expertly prepared skewers and omelets. Lunch reservations are also available, making it accessible for all.

Modern and Comfortable Atmosphere

The Nakameguro location features a cozy and modern design with seating options for up to 20 guests, including private rooms and counter seating for an intimate experience.
