Holland America Line Unveils New Moose Shore Excursion in Alaska for Wildlife Conservation Enthusiasts

A New Adventure in Alaska

Holland America Line is once again paving the way in Alaska tourism with the launch of a new and exclusive shore excursion that highlights the majestic moose, a beloved symbol of the Alaskan wilderness. Celebrating National Moose Day, which falls on January 25, Holland America has partnered with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) to offer this unique experience to its guests.

This tour not only caters to wildlife enthusiasts but also focuses on the importance of conservation efforts in Alaska, solidifying Holland America's position as the premier cruise line for wildlife and wilderness tours in the region. With more than 200 immersive experiences available, the new adventure is set to debut during the 2026 Alaska cruise season, affirming the cruise line's commitment to responsible tourism and wildlife education.

Behind the Scenes at AWCC

The newly introduced "Eland Friends Moose Discovery" tour provides guests with an unforgettable opportunity to connect with the iconic Alaska moose and observe them in their natural habitats. The excursion includes a scenic drive along the stunning Seward Highway, known for its breathtaking views of the Alaskan landscape. Guests are guided behind the scenes at the AWCC, where they will see firsthand how the dedicated team cares for the moose and other wildlife.

During the visit, participants will learn about the daily activities that keep the moose healthy and thriving, including enrichment activities, diet preparation, and behavioral observation. This educational component of the tour reflects Holland America’s commitment to fostering a meaningful connection between guests and the wildlife they admire.

Kacy Cole, the Chief Marketing Officer for Holland America Line, expressed the significance of wildlife encounters to guests. "Seeing wildlife is one of the top reasons guests choose to cruise Alaska," Cole stated. "This new shore excursion gives our guests an extraordinary opportunity to connect with moose in a way that is both unforgettable and responsible."

Meet Eland: The Moose Ambassador

One of the highlights of the tour is the chance to meet Eland, a charming and beloved moose at the AWCC who serves as an ambassador for conservation. Eland's arrival at the center in June 2025 has been a significant event, as his name was chosen through a social media campaign engaging Holland America Line followers. His presence not only captivates visitors but also plays a key role in raising awareness for moose conservation efforts.

Holland America Moose Promenade

In addition to the shore excursion, Holland America Line is also investing in the long-term care of moose at AWCC by contributing $150,000 to the center's ongoing animal care initiatives. This donation will help develop the Holland America Moose Promenade, a newly designed scenic elevated boardwalk that will overlook moose habitats, allowing for a safe and comfortable viewing area.

Set to break ground in the fall of 2026, with completion expected by the 2027 Alaska cruise season, the promenade will enhance guest engagement while supporting the conservation center's mission of wildlife preservation. The boardwalk design will ensure excellent visibility for visitors to observe the moose without disturbing their natural behaviors.

Ongoing Community and Environmental Commitment

Holland America Line’s collaboration with AWCC began in 2024, and the cruise line remains steadfast in its commitment to wildlife and community outreach. Beyond this shore excursion, Holland America also supports local conservation efforts by allowing guests to contribute through onboard purchases, including specially themed cocktails where proceeds benefit AWCC.

As the cruise line continues to celebrate its long-standing relationship with Alaska, this new moose-focused excursion highlights not only the natural wonders of the state but also emphasizes the crucial role of conservation in protecting its wildlife for future generations. With a mission to preserve Alaskan wildlife through engaging educational experiences, Holland America Line is setting a standard for responsible tourism in the region.
