HIS Launches the 'Second Hometown Project'
In a pioneering initiative to forge deeper connections between travelers and local communities,
HIS, in collaboration with
WAFUKU Labs and the
Ontake Wellness Lab, has launched the
‘Second Hometown Project’. This innovative project aims to transform travel experiences in Japan, focusing on
Kiso Town’s Kaida Highlands in Nagano Prefecture, where visitors can truly feel at home.
The 'Second Hometown Project' was unveiled today, introducing the
Kiso Uma Mirai Lab, a new community platform hosted on
FiNANCiE. Its mission is to encourage travelers to not only visit but also engage with the local culture, initiatives, and daily life of this beautiful region.
Transforming Travel into Community Engagement
HIS plans to leverage its extensive local networks to create new avenues for
relationship population, a concept that builds long-term ties between tourists and the communities they visit. By using smartphone technology, travelers can actively support and engage with the local culture, visualizing their involvement in real-time. The project adopts the slogan:
“Turn your travels into ‘Welcome Home!’”, aiming to shift the perception of tourism from fleeting visits to establishing heartfelt connections.
The founders believe that sustainable tourism is achievable. By continuously sharing the vibrant everyday life and initiatives in Kiso Town, the project aspires to promote local tourism as a
‘second hometown’, encouraging visitors to return time and again.
The Kiso Uma Mirai Lab
Located in the heart of
Kiso Town, known for its native horse breed, the
Kiso Uma, the Kiso Uma Mirai Lab is powered by a trio of companies—HIS, FiNANCiE, and WAFUKU Labs. Together with the local Ontake Wellness Lab, they will oversee community operations, fostering a sense of belonging among visitors. This initiative is designed to merge local traditions with modern technology, providing a platform where these two worlds can flourish together.

HIS envisions a future where
regions and people can connect seamlessly in a natural and unforced manner. This project not only cultivates a meaningful alternative for regional revitalization beyond mere consumption but also lays the groundwork for similar initiatives across various locales in Japan.
With this launch, HIS hopes to inspire travelers to contribute to the sustainability of local cultures, ensuring that their experiences turn into meaningful connections that endure long after their visit ends.
