Celebrate the 10th LeaLea Charity Run 5K in Hawaii
The 10th edition of the
LeaLea Charity Run 5K by HIS is set to take place on
October 12, 2025 at the picturesque
Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu. Organized by the Hawaii branch of HIS (Hawaii HIS Corporation), this event celebrates a decade of community support and fun.
Initially launched in
2011, the charity run's primary aim was to assist the recovery efforts following the
Great East Japan Earthquake. It originally focused on inviting middle school students from affected areas to Hawaii, promoting friendships and engagement through experiential learning. In
2014, the event evolved into an annual celebration emphasizing support for the local Hawaiian community, establishing itself as a cherished local tradition.
This year’s event marks an exciting return after a six-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The race will be managed in partnership with the
Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club, Hawaii's largest running club. Participants will start at Ala Moana Beach Park and finish at
Magic Island, with a beach clean-up activity scheduled after the race to further the event’s environmental commitment.
All proceeds from the
LeaLea Charity Run 5K by HIS will be fully donated to the
Waikiki Aquarium, which focuses on research and conservation of Hawaii's coral reefs and marine ecosystems. Participants will also be offered tickets for a special price of
$10 (regularly
$68) for the newly launched
XploreRide Hawaii tour, utilizing XR technology in tourism entertainment, with all proceeds going towards the Waikiki Aquarium. The funds will contribute to the renovation of their exhibit titled
Edge of the Reef, which helps increase awareness and understanding of Hawaii's marine ecosystems.
HIS is committed to promoting
regenerative tourism through partnerships aimed at preserving Hawaii's natural environment and cultural heritage. The organization has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Hawaii Tourism Authority Japan branch to support joint efforts in highlighting
Malama Hawaii – the spirit of caring for Hawaii. Through the
LeaLea Charity Run 5K, both residents and tourists are invited to experience Hawaii’s allure while contributing to the community and its sustainability.
