Limited-Time Aomori Rice Fair at Honoriya Shinbashi Features Special Onigiri!

Experience Aomori's Culinary Delights at Honoriya Shinbashi

Honoriya Shinbashi, operated by JR East Japan Cross Station Foods Company, invites food enthusiasts to enjoy the limited-time "Aomori Rice Fair". Throughout the event, which will take place from January 16, 2026, for about a month, every onigiri sold at this location will be crafted using the renowned Aomori brand rice "Seiten no Hekireki". This high-quality rice is celebrated for its excellent grain texture, moderate stickiness, and refreshing flavor profile that enhances the overall taste of the dish.

"Seiten no Hekireki" is not just any rice; it encapsulates years of development by Aomori Prefecture. When cooked, its glossy white appearance and subtle sweetness become apparent, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Each onigiri at Honoriya is meticulously made with freshly steamed rice on-site to ensure that the authentic taste of this premium rice shines through, providing a memorable culinary experience.

Relish the Local Flavors: Komura's Koji Nanban Onigiri

One of the highlights of the Aomori Rice Fair is the introduction of the onigiri featuring the local soul food, "Komura's Koji Nanban." This delightful onigiri incorporates not only the premium rice but also a unique fermented seasoning made from chopped green chili peppers, koji rice, and miso. Passed down through generations, "Koji Nanban" serves as a beloved staple throughout the Tsugaru region of Aomori.

What makes "Komura's Koji Nanban" special is the balance of the gentle sweetness from the rice koji combined with a lingering spiciness. When paired with savory grilled salmon, it creates a rich and delicious experience that perfectly captures Aomori's culinary heritage. This onigiri is priced at 260 yen (tax included) and is available at all Honoriya locations, except for the Hiratsuka store.
