Promoting Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Haneda Airport's Air Day Festival

Promoting Sustainable Aviation Fuel at the Air Day Festival

On September 27, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) is thrilled to announce its participation in the 2025 Air Day Festival at Haneda Airport. This event will spotlight the Fry to Fly Project, which aims to enhance the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through collaborative efforts involving private companies and local governments.

This marks the first initiative after joining the Fry to Fly Project, and the ministry will partner with companies involved in the project to promote SAF and the associated decarbonization efforts within the aviation sector.

Event Highlights

The Air Day Festival will feature a unique 3D VR experience that offers attendees an immersive journey through the entire supply chain—from the collection of used cooking oil to its transformation into SAF used in aviation. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with interactive displays that further explain the critical role of SAF in achieving carbon neutrality in air travel.

Moreover, the festival will provide various panels and posters showcasing information about SAF and related decarbonization activities. Through engaging quizzes and surveys during the event, the ministry aims to enhance public understanding and recognition of SAF's importance in transforming the aviation industry.

This interaction not only helps spread awareness but also encourages active involvement from the public.

With the aviation industry striving towards sustainability, the Air Day Festival serves as an excellent opportunity to educate travelers about what SAF means for both the environment and the future of air travel. The involvement of key players like All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government further illustrates the collaborative effort to promote sustainable practices.

By showcasing the significance of converting waste materials, such as used cooking oil, into SAF, the festival embodies the principles of resource circulation and zero emissions within the aviation sector. The public's participation will contribute significantly to the ongoing dialogue about sustainable aviation practices and carbon neutrality goals.

In conclusion, the Air Day Festival is not just an event; it’s a crucial step toward a more sustainable future for air travel. The ministry, along with its partners, is committed to raising awareness about SAF and driving the conversation about decarbonization in aviation. Everyone is invited to join in and make a difference!
