Bringing Spring to Life: The #KitpasSakuraFrontline2026 Initiative
As the cherry blossom front emerges, Japan transforms into a canvas of pink hues. The Japan Rika Chemical Industry Co., Ltd, under the leadership of President Takahisa Ooyama, introduces an intriguing participatory art project titled
#KitpasSakuraFrontline2026, set to launch on March 10, 2026. Utilizing ‘
Kitpas’, an erasable writing instrument designed for glass surfaces, this creative endeavor aims to connect art across diverse regions in accordance with the cherry blossoms' blooming schedule.
The Journey of Cherry Blossoms
Every year, it's said that the cherry blossom front travels approximately 100 days from Okinawa in the south to Hokkaido in the north. This initiative cleverly aligns with that seasonal relay. Participants are invited to turn their windows—be it at home, businesses, or travel destinations—into canvases for cherry blossom art. By posting their creations on social media, they become part of an evolving art tapestry that visually links various locations throughout Japan. As the cherry blossom art spreads like a baton being passed, many will witness how the country gradually transforms into a sea of pink.
During this period, there will also be large-scale window art events in places like Nakameguro, Shiodome, and Kawasaki, the headquarters of Japan Rika Chemical. Collaborating with around 4,500 Kitpas art instructors across the nation, the project aims to connect people through the joy of drawing, culminating its journey at the city of Bibai in Hokkaido, and potentially reaching Abashiri, the northernmost point.
What is Kitpas?
Kitpas is an innovative drawing tool that allows vibrant creations on smooth surfaces like glass, which can be easily wiped away with water. Made primarily from rice wax, it is a safe drawing medium for all ages, not only in Japan but also across international markets. It's often used for window art, event decorations, and educational workshops, making it a versatile tool in various settings. Through
#KitpasSakuraFrontline2026, participants will creatively share the arrival of spring by deploying their Kitpas on windows nationwide.
The Art Relay of Spring
The beautiful phenomenon of the cherry blossom front symbolizes one of Japan's most cherished seasonal landscapes. This year, as people transition into new chapters in life—be it graduations or new job beginnings—the program seeks to cultivate a shared experience of spring. It encourages individuals to reflect on the blossoming season while busy schedules might otherwise cloud such appreciation.
By using the Kitpas writing tool to create cherry blossom-themed art, participants will share their pieces across social media, transforming their everyday locations into artistic hubs.
Mapping the Pink Journey
As cherry blossom art expands from south to north, the visual representation of Japan’s art community will evolve. The moment participants share their artwork online, they actively contribute to this beautiful relay of creativity. Through social media, diverse examples of cherry blossom art will be highlighted, allowing for a colorful depiction of the cherry blossom front’s movement.

A message from President Takahisa Ooyama:
As spring heralds new beginnings, I hope the warm colors of Kitpas can inspire all individuals stepping into new journeys. This project aims to connect people's hearts through art, regardless of any challenges. My wish is that as this relay of the cherry blossom front traverses Japan toward Abashiri, the entire nation can unite in the warmth of springtime beauty.
