Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre Opens Ninth Season with 'Out of the Box: Series III'

Atlanta, GA - The Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre (TMBT) has officially launched its ninth season with the debut of 'Out of the Box: Series III,' showcasing bold, innovative performances that blend classical and contemporary dance. This exciting event runs from September 20 to 28 at Tula Arts Center's 'White Box Theatre,' reinforcing TMBT's commitment to making the art of dance accessible to all.

Artistic director John Welker expressed his gratitude towards TMBT's growing community, stating, "As we begin our ninth season, my gratitude to our growing community is at an all-time high. We set out to build a home for artists who dance with both gravitas and heart. Welcoming new talents affirms our promise to create compelling contemporary work while nurturing the next generation."

This season marks a significant occasion for TMBT as it welcomes a roster of new dancers and protégés. Each of these individuals will not only perform but will also train with established company members and guest artists, ensuring a pipeline for emerging talent in the dance community. Among the new company members are:

  • - Alex Brown: A Georgia native, Brown brings a distinctive musicality and grounded lyricism to his performances. After earning a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Belhaven University, he danced with Bruce Wood Dance in Dallas and honed his skills while training with notable artists. His debut at TMBT promises to captivate audiences with his artistry and connection to music.

  • - David West: A classical ballet artist with contemporary flair, West began his dance journey at age 10 and has since showcased his talent on various platforms. With performances at Orlando Ballet and participation in high-profile competitions, West's addition to the company brings a fresh perspective and athleticism to Atlanta's dance scene.

The protégé program introduces:
  • - Brinly Tredway: An early starter in dancing at age 3, Tredway has performed in lead roles and was previously with TMBT's Student Company. Her extensive training solidifies her role in this talented group.
  • - Johanna 'JoJo' Wu: Now in her second season, Wu has received accolades at various competitions and embodies the spirit of TMBT with her outstanding performances as a classical soloist.

The season highlights include:
  • - World Premiere: Cammi Nevarez presents a fresh, unexpected take on classical ballet.
  • - New Creation by Tara Lee: This work captures the ephemeral joy and vitality of live performance.
  • - Return of 'Balanced' by Jimmy Orrante: A visually stunning piece exploring harmony and counterpoint, it promises to be a crowd favorite.

In its continued effort to make dance accessible, TMBT prioritizes engagement with the community through performances, educational programs, and affordable ticketing initiatives. By inviting both seasoned attendees and new audiences, the organization endeavors to create a welcoming atmosphere that transforms ballet into a local form of expression.
