Nessus Launches New Projects for Children in Tsushima and Iki Cities
Nessus Inc., headquartered in Setagaya, Tokyo, is leveraging the hometown tax system to provide regional specialties and experiences as support goods for children from single-parent families, children facing serious illnesses, and community kitchens. The initiative, named "Kodomo Furusato Bin," aims to enrich the lives of children in need.
Recently, the introduction of two new projects has been announced in collaboration with Tsushima City and Iki City in Nagasaki Prefecture, focusing on utilizing the ocean's bounties.
An Expanding Network of Regional Support
"Kodomo Furusato Bin" connects donors with specific causes, allowing them to choose which children should receive the aid. Participants can receive rewards indistinguishable from those provided by other hometown tax platforms, while also engaging in philanthropic activities focused on children's welfare.
From August 2025, Tsushima City’s project has started inviting not only corporate sponsors but also individuals to contribute through the hometown tax scheme. Adding to the excitement, Iki City is also joining this inspiring initiative.
Future expansions of the project are being planned to include more municipalities such as Noto Town in Ishikawa Prefecture and Tokachi Town in Hokkaido, as the network grows.
Overview of the Projects
Tsushima City: Marine Bounty for Children
Situated at the northern tip of Kyushu, Tsushima City boasts rich fisheries and aquaculture, ranking second in Japan in terms of marine production. This new project aims to provide local fish resources, often not reaching commercial markets, as support supplies for children’s kitchens and single-parent families.
By delivering these marine resources to children, the project creates opportunities for them to experience the deliciousness of Tsushima’s fish, while also promoting sustainable practices. The initiative is mindful of the environmental impact of fishing practices and aims to maintain a balance between resource use and ecological conservation.
Iki City: Exciting Experiences for Children
Iki City, known for its historical significance and natural beauty, is launching a project that enables children from struggling families to engage in dolphin watching and other outdoor activities. Under this project, transport and accommodation expenses will be covered, allowing families to experience the island's offerings.
According to findings by the non-profit organization Chance for Children, about one-third of children from households earning below 3 million yen annually do not engage in any extracurricular activities. Many families dealing with long-term illnesses rarely have the chance to travel together. This initiative not only aims to provide memorable experiences but also seeks to foster tourism marketing efforts to bring awareness to Iki City's unique attractions.
