Blockchain for Good Alliance Leads Global Digital Cooperation at UN IGF 2025
A Pioneering Moment for Blockchain at UN IGF 2025
The Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA), a prominent nonprofit organization co-founded by Bybit, took center stage at the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF) in Oslo. The BGA, known for advocating responsible innovation, hosted an exclusive high-level dinner themed "Bridging the Future: Blockchain, Governance, and Global Cooperation" at the historic Akershus Fortress. This event, held in collaboration with the Singapore Internet Governance Forum (SGIGF), gathered global leaders from governments, multilateral organizations, and the blockchain and AI sectors.
An Inclusive Dialogue for a Digital Future
The official parallel event, supported by the UN IGF Secretariat, aimed to foster discussions around creating an inclusive, ethical, and interoperable digital infrastructure. Glenn Tan, the Director of Global Affairs at BGA, led the event alongside SGIGF founding members, Henry and Una Wang. Distinguished guests included His Excellency Dharambeer Gokhool, President of Mauritius, Argentina's national deputy Pamela Calletti, and Chilean senator Kenneth Pugh, along with numerous representatives from UN agencies and national parliaments.
The evening's discussions centered on the transformative role of blockchain in establishing a reliable and collaborative global digital ecosystem. President Gokhool emphasized Mauritius's commitment to a governance model rooted in ethics and inclusivity, stating, "As we navigate the crossroads of a digital future, Mauritius reaffirms its dedication to a governance model that is ethical, inclusive, and rights-based. Events like IGF 2025 serve as reminders that trust, collaboration, and shared values must be the cornerstones of our collective journey through the age of AI and emerging technologies. This is not merely a conference; it is a collective call to awareness."
Glenn Tan highlighted the urgent need for a forward-looking infrastructure, remarking, "As blockchain oscillates between hype cycles and internet complexities, we must ensure that the systems built today serve the collective good of tomorrow. This gathering symbolized our shared commitment to a multiparty future anchored in trust and innovation."
Henry Wang added a regional perspective, stating, "As UN IGF celebrates its 20 years of global internet governance, this dinner is timely to remind us that the next 20 years must be co-created across sectors, systems, and sovereignties. When aligned with responsible governance and AI ethics, blockchain can become the connective tissue of a truly inclusive, decentralized, and intelligent internet."
The event reaffirmed the BGA's mission to promote cross-border collaboration and responsible digital transformation. These vital conversations will continue at the inaugural SGIGF conference in Singapore on October 1, 2025, where regional stakeholders will engage in global dialogue on inclusive and resilient internet governance.
