The Flower and Light Movement: A Summer Romance at Koganei Park
Koganei Park is set to be transformed into a vibrant spectacle from
July 18 to August 3, 2025, as part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Flower and Light Movement. This initiative, managed by
Hibiya Kadan, focuses on enhancing parks throughout the year with floral designs and captivating light displays. This summer, visitors can immerse themselves in an extraordinary experience themed around historical aesthetics from the Edo era to the Showa period.
A Unique Floral Display
During this
17-day event, Koganei Park will showcase enchanting vertical flower beds adorned with summer blooms, alongside breathtaking light displays that portray the essence of various historical periods. The blend of daytime natural beauty with nighttime illuminations will create a magical atmosphere, inviting everyone to indulge in the lush surroundings.
As visitors stroll through the park, they will encounter historical landscapes that capture the spirit of summer, punctuated by exciting AR photo spots and digital stamp rallies that enhance the experience. Food enthusiasts will also delight in a variety of food trucks offering refreshments.
Highlights of the Event

“Illuminated Edo Summer” (Edo Zone / Front of the Historic Building)
At the front plaza, visitors will be captivated by a dazzling display involving traditional summer elements such as
asagao (morning glory), fireworks, wind chimes, and
water fans. The iconic Edo-Tokyo Historic Building Center will feature a thrilling projection mapping display that provides an interactive experience with AR fireworks viewed through smartphone cameras. As night falls, the enchanting ambiance around the asagao will transport guests to a dreamy Edo world.

“Bountiful Ukiyo” (Edo Zone / Perennial Garden)
Enjoy a magical experience in the Perennial Garden filled with vibrant summer flora. Here, unique photo opportunities await, complemented by floral arrangements resembling traditional Japanese folding screens. Illuminations will create a soothing blue light, evoking the gentle presence of water, while the night sky will be sprinkled with fantastical firefly-like lighting effects.

“Fantastical Garden of Eastern and Western Influences” (Meiji Zone / Gazebo)
Inspired by the Meiji era, visitors can experience the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures through dazzling flower displays and soft gaslight-style lighting. This whimsical setting invites relaxation in a cooling mist while celebrating the elegance of that historical period.

“Time Travel through Taisho Romance” (Taisho & Showa Zone / Steam Locomotive Exhibition)
The exhibition area featuring historic steam locomotives will illustrate Taisho-era charm. With sunflowers adorning the exhibit and delicate lighting mimicking traditional gas lamps, guests can enjoy the vibrant scenery at any time of day. The contrast between the bright sun and cheerful sunflowers defines the essence of summer.
Venue Information
The event will take place throughout the various designated areas of Koganei Park, with free admission for all attendees. The lighting will be turned on from
5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, offering a stunning visual feast that enchants both day and night visitors.

Koganei Park is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors can take the JR Chuo Line to Musashi-Koganei Station and transfer to local buses to reach the park directly.
