Global Baristas Compete in International Julius Meinl Barista Cup 2026

Uniting Coffee Artisans: The Julius Meinl Barista Cup 2026

Every day, baristas serve over five million cups of coffee from Julius Meinl, a brand synonymous with quality in the coffee industry. This dedication to excellence is at the heart of the Julius Meinl Barista Cup 2026, a prestigious international competition celebrating the artistry and skills of baristas worldwide.

The Barista Cup aims to highlight the crucial role that baristas play in enhancing the coffee experience for consumers. From April to July 2026, national competitions will be held in 17 countries, including Austria, Italy, Poland, and the USA, amongst others. These competitions will determine which baristas will earn a spot at the Grand Finale in Vienna on September 4, 2026.

A Platform for Emerging Talent

Beginning with local cafés, baristas are encouraged to showcase their talents by entering national competitions. Each participant will be judged on their performance in three main categories: Espresso, Cappuccino, and Signature Drink. The top contenders from each category will not only gain recognition but will also win an exclusive trip to a coffee-producing country, allowing them to engage first-hand with coffee culture and sustainable practices.

Christina Meinl, a fifth-generation member of the family business, expressed excitement over the event's revival: “The passion displayed at the inaugural Barista Cup in 2024 was incredible. We are thrilled to welcome five new countries into the competition this year, providing an expanded platform for baristas to shine on a global level.”

Craftsmanship and Sustainability

Participation in the competition signifies more than just skill; it's about a commitment to quality and sustainability. Using Julius Meinl's Gloriette Gold blend—part of their Fairtrade-certified range—baristas will be challenged to creatively express their understanding of this unique coffee, all while adhering to sustainable practices that honor the environment.

The competition will employ state-of-the-art equipment supplied by industry leaders such as Rancilio Group and Fiorenzato. This includes professional espresso machines and precision grinders, ensuring every cup's optimal flavor is achieved. With additional support from partners like DaVinci Gourmet, who will provide syrups for signature drinks, baristas are equipped to elevate their craft.
