Miele and nadoya: A Culinary Journey at 'FIRST PLACE'



On December 8, a unique event titled "THINK & TASTE FIRST PLACE" will take place in Tokyo, organized by Miele Japan and the architectural firm nadoya led by architect Shunsuke Okamura. This event aims to reimagine the future of food and conversation surrounding it, utilizing a traditional 70-year-old farmhouse equipped with Miele's premium built-in kitchen appliances.

Background of the Event


The collaboration between Miele and nadoya has been ongoing for over a year, fostering dialogue through culinary experiences in a beautifully restored space. For this upcoming event, distinguished chef Ryu Haga and plant-dye artist Yuko Tachida will lead discussions and culinary demonstrations.

The public event will mark the first such occasion in over a year, previously hosting exclusive, invitation-only workshops. It will be structured into two parts, encouraging guests to contemplate the future while enjoying a thoughtfully designed environment.

Cooking and Dialogue Focus


The event aims to explore themes such as "Plants and People" and "Nature and Humanity," engaging guests in thought-provoking discussions about how we can coexist with our environment. The afternoon will revolve around culinary creations by Chef Haga, who has previously worked at famed restaurants including noma, while the evening focuses on dialogue facilitated by Okamura and Tachida.

Profiles of Key Guests


Ryu Haga:
A talented chef, he has honed his skills under the guidance of Yoshihiro Imai in Kyoto's "monk" and trained at Denmark's renowned "kadeau copenhagen", before serving as a section chef at noma, immersing himself in the philosophy of "time and place" in cuisine. Haga seeks to represent Japanese culinary traditions and is preparing to launch his own ventures both domestically and internationally.

Yuko Tachida (kitta):
A plant-dye artist who has been creating garments through botanical dyeing since 1998. After moving to Okinawa in 2011, she has developed her work around sustainable practices that view the creation and lifecycle of materials as a cohesive flow, mediating between nature and humanity.

Shunsuke Okamura:
As the chief architect of nadoya, Okamura operates an alternative space in a renovated historical building. He seeks sustainability in urban life, merging architecture with nature and community. In collaboration with Miele, he established FIRST PLACE with a vision for an innovative approach to living spaces and culinary culture.
