Vietnam's Japanese Reading Contest Final
On October 25, 2025, the final of the Vietnamese Japanese Reading Contest was held at Hanoi University, co-hosted by MEIKO NETWORK VIETNAM, a local subsidiary of Meiko Network Japan, and Hanoi University. This event marks the third annual collaboration aimed at enhancing cultural exchange through language education between Vietnam and Japan.
The reading contest is a significant initiative set as part of a broader Japanese language education training program. It stands out as one of the largest Japanese cultural events in Vietnam, which will continue into the next year to deepen mutual understanding and cultural ties between the two nations.
2025 Contest Overview
This year, a total of 126 participants from all over Vietnam registered for the contest, with 15 advancing to the finals after a rigorous selection process. Participants, ranging from elementary to university students, showcased their reading skills split into three categories: novice, intermediate, and advanced.
Each category's winners are awarded with opportunities for short-term study trips to Japan, enhancing their language skills while experiencing the culture firsthand.
Categories of Participation
- - Novice Level: Participants demonstrated their ability to express emotions through performances of Japanese fairy tales, focusing on their expressive capabilities.
- - Intermediate Level: Contestants read excerpts from Japanese novels, with emphasis on effective emotional expression and interpretation.
- - Advanced Level: A challenging task required contestants to translate Vietnamese fairy tales into Japanese and summarize the story's moral in their own words, pushing the boundaries of their linguistic mastery.
Three participants were awarded the title of Best in category among the finalists.
