Petkim Chooses Univation's UNIPOL™ PE Technology for New Plant in Türkiye
In recent developments in the petrochemical industry, Univation Technologies has announced that PETKIM PETROKIMYA HOLDING A.S. has opted for the advanced UNIPOL™ PE Process for its anticipated polyethylene production facility in Aliaga, located in İzmir, Türkiye. This significant decision marks a crucial milestone in the project's progression as Petkim gears up for its final investment decision (FID).
The new plant is projected to have an impressive polyethylene resin production capacity of 850,000 metric tons per annum, achieved through two similarly structured reactor lines, each designed to handle 425,000 metric tons.
This will be the inaugural installation of the UNIPOL™ PE Process at Petkim’s site, setting a precedent as one of the largest technology licenses for polyethylene in Türkiye. It aligns with the country’s strategic objectives to boost its domestic petrochemical capacity, thereby reducing reliance on imports and supporting local economic growth.
Sereen Massoud, President of Univation Technologies, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, "PETKIM's selection of the UNIPOL™ PE Process for this significant 850 kTA project reflects the proven performance and flexibility of our technology." The project aims to enable an extensive range of high-performance polyethylene products across both reactor lines, fulfilling the evolving demands of the Turkish market.
In addition to enhancing Petkim's growth, this new production facility seeks to contribute to Türkiye's broader goal of expanding domestic supply capabilities. Univation Technologies has a long-standing reputation for its contributions to the polyethylene sector, having provided technological innovations for over 55 years. Their portfolio not only includes the UNIPOL™ PE Process but also advanced catalysts designed specifically to enhance polyethylene production.
Petkim, a subsidiary of SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan), is Türkiye’s sole integrated petrochemical producer. The company is crucial in supplying a vast array of essential raw materials to multiple industries including plastics, automotive, construction, and packaging. With its strategically located production facilities, Petkim plays a key role in bolstering Türkiye’s petrochemical landscape, enabling the country to fortify its domestic production capabilities.
As the world moves towards sustainable practices, the expansion of polyolefin production through innovative methodologies like that of UNIPOL™ will be vital in addressing global market needs while also aligning with environmental standards. The collaboration between Univation Technologies and Petkim showcases a forward-thinking approach that anticipates the future demands of the petrochemical industry.
This forward-looking investment not only represents a strategic growth initiative for Petkim but also positions Türkiye as a pivotal player in the global polyethylene market. With continued advancements in technology and production capabilities, it’s a thrilling time for the industry as they collectively stride towards a sustainable and prosperous future.
In conclusion, Petkim's decision to adopt Univation's UNIPOL™ PE process plays a critical part in shaping the future of the petrochemical sector in Türkiye, making this a landmark moment for both companies and the industry at large.
