In a significant leadership transition, the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center has announced the appointment of Tom Mundell as the new President and CEO, effective from August 4, 2025. Mundell arrives with a wealth of experience spanning over 35 years in philanthropy and organizational growth in various sectors, notably healthcare, higher education, and nonprofit management.

Mundell's most recent position was at the National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership (NMOHCL) in South Carolina, where he led the charge on a $75 million campaign aimed at emphasizing leadership principles that reflect the six foundational values presented by Medal of Honor recipients: Patriotism, Citizenship, Courage, Sacrifice, Integrity, and Commitment. Under his direction, the organization made significant strides in its mission to instill these values across the nation.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mundell's fundraising prowess has enabled him to secure over $4 billion for various organizations. His previous roles include Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he was directly involved in philanthropic efforts and alumni relations, as well as Senior Vice President for Philanthropy at Hawaii Pacific Health, overseeing four medical center foundations in Honolulu.

Col. Frank Hughes (USMC, RET), board chair of the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, expressed confidence in Mundell’s leadership: “Tom's proven track record of strategic leadership and fundraising success, combined with his deep appreciation for the character values embodied by the Medal of Honor, make him the ideal leader to guide the Heritage Center into its next chapter.”

In addition to his extensive professional background, Mundell holds the distinction of being a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he earned the title of Airman of the Year at Dover Air Force Base. He completed his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and pursued graduate studies at Vanderbilt University. Together with his wife Abby, they look forward to relocating to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

“I am honored to join the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center and help advance its mission of preserving the legacy of our nation's greatest heroes while inspiring future generations to live by the values of Patriotism, Citizenship, Courage, Integrity, Sacrifice, and Commitment,” said Mundell. He expressed eagerness to fully embrace the vibrant military history of Chattanooga, known as the Birthplace of the Medal of Honor.

The Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, strategically located in Chattanooga, aims to safeguard the history and influence of the Medal of Honor through interactive exhibits, educational programming, and storytelling initiatives. The 19,500 square-foot facility serves as an essential resource for educating future leaders about the character traits that underpin the Medal of Honor, inspiring them to make impactful contributions to their communities and beyond.
