EMC GLOBAL's Role in Student Entrepreneurship

EMC GLOBAL, based in Tokyo, has recently been approved for the pivotal TOKYO SUTEAM support project by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Led by Executive Director Yoichi Ito, this initiative focuses on fostering entrepreneurial skills among students both domestically and internationally. The goal is to cultivate the next generation of global entrepreneurs who will take on challenges from Japan.

A Vision for Global Entrepreneurship

EMC GLOBAL is committed to creating an ecosystem that nurtures global entrepreneurial talents originating from Asia. The organization envisions producing a new generation equipped with a global perspective and the courage to face challenges without fear of failure. To achieve this, EMC GLOBAL is partnering with over 100 universities, entrepreneurial groups, and student organizations across Japan, as well as overseas universities and entrepreneurship networks.

The organization has set out to establish a sample group of over 300 students from various backgrounds, providing them with opportunities to engage in business boot camps and other structured programs aimed at facilitating international teamwork and innovation.

Plans for Implementation

The initiative is not limited to Tokyo; it extends nationwide. EMC GLOBAL will actively collaborate with universities and student organizations around the country. Their aim is to involve not only Japanese students but also aspiring entrepreneurs from abroad, forming international teams that will generate fresh ideas. This collaborative environment is expected to lead to participation in international pitch competitions and acceleration programs.

One of the primary goals is to create a network of student entrepreneurs that can support each other while deepening partnerships with corporations and local governments to foster open innovation.

The Context of the Initiative

Japan has faced a significant drop in its economic growth and international competitiveness, in part due to a severe shortage of global talent. EMC GLOBAL believes that by instilling a global mindset and extensive networks among students, it can help regain the lost opportunities of the past three decades, aligning with the aims of the TOKYO SUTEAM initiative to strengthen Tokyo's startup ecosystem and promote new startup creation.

TOKYO SUTEAM's Objectives

Launched in November 2022, the TOKYO SUTEAM initiative is part of a broader strategy defined by Tokyo—titled "Global Innovation with STARTUPS"—to create a supportive environment for challengers and entrepreneurs. This program seeks to enhance the startup ecosystem through partnerships with a diverse array of supporters and to promote the growth and establishment of startups within Tokyo.

EMC GLOBAL's prompting focuses on nurturing young entrepreneurs and fostering global connections, categorizing their work under priority fields of youth entrepreneurship and global support for startups.
