Atlantic Builders Supply Celebrates Innovative ICF Award Winners in New Hampshire

A Celebration of Innovation and Community Impact

Atlantic Builders Supply Northeast proudly acknowledges the remarkable achievements of Groen Construction and Key Industries at the recent IFC Magazine Builder Awards held during the World of Concrete 2025. This prestigious event highlighted standout projects, including the award-winning Bristol Public Safety Building and the commendable Penacook Community Center, both notable examples of insulated concrete form (ICF) construction.

Bristol Public Safety Building: A New Standard for Municipal Architecture

The Bristol Public Safety Building was awarded the top honor in the Light Commercial Category due to its innovative approach to modern municipal construction. Housing both police and fire services, this project is notable for its energy-efficient design, bringing significant savings—approximately $20,000 annually in utility costs—to the town of Bristol. The building utilizes Nudura ICF forms available in varying thicknesses, which enhance its durability and maintenance profile.

Dave Groen, senior vice president and ICF division manager of Groen Construction, explained, “We modeled this project after a successful design we implemented for Farmington, modifying it to meet Bristol’s unique requirements in collaboration with SMP Architecture.” The focus on energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness showcases how ICF technology can redefine community infrastructure.

Penacook Community Center: A Hub for Community Services

In the Education Category, the Penacook Community Center secured a third-place recognition. Spanning 8,900 square feet, it replaces aging structures with a state-of-the-art, energy-conscious facility designed to serve children, families, and seniors. Built using Nudura ICF technology, its exceptional energy efficiency and soundproofing capabilities appeal to a diverse range of community activities.

Matthew Salmonson, vice president of Key Industries, expressed his pride in the project’s rapid construction, stating, “We completed the shell of the building in just two months. From both inside and outside, it’s hard to distinguish it as an ICF structure, yet it epitomizes energy efficiency.” A key feature of this $6 million initiative is its commitment to sustainability, capable of reducing energy consumption by up to 50%.

The Philosophy Behind ICF Construction

Atlantic Builders Supply Northeast emphasizes the long-term benefits and sustainability that ICF construction provides. Joe Harnois, president of Atlantic Builders Supply Northeast, remarked, “Projects like these highlight how ICF construction leads to resilient, sustainable, and cost-effective buildings.” The collaboration among Atlantic Builders Supply, Groen Construction, and Key Industries exemplifies the values of community engagement and innovative building practices.

Looking Forward

As Atlantic Builders Supply continues to advocate for energy-efficient building methods, they play a vital role in shaping the future of sustainable construction.
