Vivid Sydney 2025: A Colorful Beginning
The harbor city of Sydney has come alive in a vibrant display of light and creativity as
Vivid Sydney 2025 officially kicks off, marking its 15th anniversary. This year’s theme, "Dream", invites festival-goers to experience a world-class curation of light art, ideas, music, and cuisine, running from May 23 to June 14.
Over a span of 23 nights, attendees can explore more than 200 events across five uniquely designed zones in the city center. Each zone aims to ignite wonder, inspire thought, and present Sydney in a fresh perspective, ensuring that the festival caters to everyone, from families to tourists.
Accessibility and Inclusion
One of the standout features of Vivid Sydney 2025 is its accessibility, with more than 75% of this year’s program being completely free, including the entire Vivid Light Walk. After a seven-year hiatus, Martin Place returns as an iconic festival space, adding to the festivities.
This year, some of the biggest names from the worlds of entertainment, food, and pop culture will grace the festival. Notable appearances include culinary stars Martha Stewart, Nigella Lawson, and actor Nick Offerman. The festival is expected to draw significant crowds, reinforcing Sydney's status as a premier destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
Minister for Jobs and Tourism, Steve Kamper, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Sydney is ready to shine! This 15th anniversary celebration will continue to showcase our city’s best destinations and creative talents. Vivid Sydney is expanding in scope and impact, attracting millions and boosting the local economy."
The Festivities Begin
The launch began at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Circular Quay with a magical First Light ceremony featuring NAISDA dancers who honored the Yolngu culture from Arnhem Land. The event reached its peak at 6 PM when Sydney Harbour was illuminated with pyrotechnics, projections, and installations that animated the city’s renowned landmarks. Following this, attendees enjoyed
First Light Live, a free concert celebrating the power and pride of First Nations music.
