Volta Labs Launches Automated Library Preparation System for Oxford Nanopore Sequencing Kit V14
Volta Labs Unveils Automated Library Preparation Solution
In a significant advancement for genomic research, Volta Labs has introduced a cutting-edge DNA Library Preparation Application specifically tailored for the Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ligation Sequencing Kit V14 (SQK-LSK114). This innovative application is designed to streamline lab processes through full automation, enabling a ligation-based library preparation optimized for the PromethION platform.
Enhancing Lab Efficiency
The newly launched Callisto™ Sample Prep System leverages proprietary Electrowetting technology to automate both DNA and RNA extraction and library preparation. This means that laboratories can now achieve a highly efficient workflow that minimizes manual intervention and reduces preparation times by up to 80%. This considerable time saving is a game-changer for labs operating under tight scheduling and resource constraints.
Benchmarking studies conducted in collaboration with the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) have showcased the exceptional performance of the libraries prepared using the Callisto system. These libraries reached an impressive output of up to 120 gigabases (Gb) on a single PromethION flow cell, delivering a diagnostic variant accuracy of 99.66% single nucleotide variant (SNV) recall. Such results affirm the system's capability to produce high-quality genomic data critical for patient diagnostics.
Compliance with Industry Standards
In their evaluation presented at the Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) 2026 conference, UMC Utrecht confirmed that the integrated high-molecular-weight DNA extraction along with Callisto’s library preparation meets strict ISO 15189 accreditation standards. Bert van der Zwaag from the genetics department emphasized the necessity of a robust automated workflow in clinical routine diagnostics. He stated,
