The study demonstrated that this AI model, trained on ECG data from 9,518 individuals, achieved an impressive accuracy rate of 91.6% in classifying heart failure severity across various categories, including healthy, NYHA I–II (mild), and NYHA III–IV (moderate to severe) stages.

Key Findings of the Study


  • - The AI model showcased Area Under Curve (AUC) values of up to 0.993, with sensitivity and specificity rates ranging from 89% to 97%.

Dr. Katsuhito Fujiu, the project professor at the University of Tokyo and senior author of the study, emphasized the potential of the AI model in offering on-demand, non-invasive heart failure monitoring, even in the absence of symptoms. “It could drastically alter the landscape of patient care for individuals at risk of deteriorating heart failure by equipping both patients and clinicians with timely insights,” Dr. Fujiu remarked.
