Shanghai Electric made a significant impact at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2026, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. As the event focuses on the future of energy and sustainability, Shanghai Electric's presentation of its full-scenario energy solutions emphasized the need for a cohesive approach to energy transition in the Middle East.

With the region's unique challenges—abundance of oil and gas resources paired with water scarcity—the summit attracts policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to address these complexities. Zhu Weiwen, Deputy Director of Marketing at Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group, articulated, "Energy transition is not a simple combination of individual technologies. It is a system-level undertaking." Integrated Solar and Water Zone


In this zone, the company highlighted pivotal projects such as the Dubai Solar Park. This initiative exemplifies the successful integration of concentrated solar power, photovoltaic technology, and energy storage systems to ensure a round-the-clock electricity supply. Furthermore, Shanghai Electric exhibited its advanced seawater desalination techniques, mastering both thermal multi-effect distillation (MED) and membrane reverse osmosis (RO) technologies. These capabilities are essential in a region battling water scarcity as they pave the way for sustainable water sourcing.

Grid Support and Hybrid Storage Zone


The second zone, dedicated to grid support under high renewable penetration, showcased Shanghai Electric's innovative solutions like the "flywheel energy storage along with synchronous condenser" system. This technology is vital for providing necessary inertia and rapid frequency regulation, which has already seen successful deployment in numerous projects, including the Penasco photovoltaic power plant in Mexico.

Power-to-X and Hydrogen Energy Zone


In this area, Shanghai Electric introduced its Bristack® series electrolyzers, known for their impressive efficiency levels of 3.94 kWh/Nm³. A scale model of the Taonan Green Methanol Demonstration Project in Jilin Province, which integrates wind energy-driven hydrogen production with biomass-based green methanol production, was also showcased. This project, recognized as China’s first large-scale green methanol initiative, has achieved full-process ISCC EU certification.

Zero-Carbon Industrial Parks Zone


The final zone illustrated how high-energy-consuming industrial parks can transition to low-carbon operations by synchronizing high-efficiency industrial turbines with intelligent energy management systems. This strategy aims for systematic efficiency improvements and smart energy dispatch, further enhancing industrial sustainability.

Each showcased solution reflects Shanghai Electric’s successful project deliveries—ranging from the 2 GW AI Sadawi Photovoltaic Project in Saudi Arabia to the Safi Seawater Desalination Project in Morocco, and beyond. These diverse projects across various countries affirm the company's expertise in delivering integrated energy systems effectively.

On the summit's opening day, Shanghai Electric conducted multiple technical roadshows discussing vital regional topics such as energy-desalination coupling, green fuels, and grid stability.
