The Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library is pleased to announce a public lecture titled "Yamanote Line Circular Operations 100 Years" in the fiscal year 2028. This engaging event marks the centennial of the circular train’s operations around Tokyo, solidifying its important role in both the transport infrastructure and urban development of the city.

The Yamanote Line has been a pivotal part of Tokyo's urban landscape for the past century, shaping the city’s development with the introduction of new stations and services. In this lecture, you will have the chance to explore the fascinating evolution of the Yamanote Line and its influence on the emergence of vibrant neighborhoods.

About the Speaker


The lecture will be conducted by Dr. Shigeru Onoda, a renowned advisor at the Railway Technical Research Institute and a prominent figure in the field of engineering. Born in 1957 in Aichi Prefecture, Dr. Onoda graduated from Nihon University with a degree in Applied Geoscience. His career initiated in 1979 with the Japanese National Railways, where he worked extensively at various esteemed institutions including the Railway Technical Research Institute and the West Japan Railway Company. His expertise has also been showcased in the popular NHK program “Buratá Mori.”

Dr. Onoda is the author of many insightful books, including:
