Documentary Screening: Farmers' Resilience in Fukushima's Energy Transition

Documentary Screening: "Hinata's Farmers - Fukushima and Hope"

On May 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the Pal System Yamanashi Nagano cooperative will host a special documentary screening at the Git Kofu Plaza in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The featured film, Hinata's Farmers - Fukushima and Hope, delves into the transformative efforts of local farmers who are integrating renewable energy into their agricultural practices to rebuild their communities affected by the nuclear disaster 15 years ago.

A New Dawn for Fukushima Agriculture

The documentary presents an inspiring narrative of resilience, showcasing the innovative practice of solar sharing—installing solar panels above croplands, which has allowed farmers to rejuvenate fields once deemed unfit for cultivation due to radiation contamination. This method not only aids in energy generation but also helps stabilize crop production by reducing temperature spikes caused by direct sunlight, thereby protecting crops and helping prevent heat exhaustion during farming operations.

Directing this powerful story is Kobara-san, who previously created the impactful film The Judge Who Stopped Nuclear Power in 2022. In this new work, Kobara highlights the challenges and triumphs of farmers like Kondo Megumi, whose dedication to solar sharing symbolizes hope. Through the resilience and determination of these farmers, the documentary fosters a dialogue on sustainable practices and energy independence.
