mPATH® Health Makes Waves as Finalist in HLTH Foundation's Case Study Competition

mPATH® Health Selected as a Finalist for HLTH Foundation's Case Study Competition

mPATH® Health, an innovative digital health company based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has been recognized as one of the ten finalists in the HLTH Foundation's second annual Techquity for Health Case Study Competition. This remarkable achievement underscores the company's commitment to transforming cancer screening through digital solutions, primarily focusing on reducing health disparities and enhancing screening accessibility.

The Techquity for Health Case Study Competition highlights noteworthy digital health solutions that seek to address systemic inequities while promoting health equity. mPATH Health's selection for this honor serves as a testament to its groundbreaking efforts developed at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. According to Dr. David Miller, founder and inventor of mPATH, creating this program was essential to overcome barriers related to health literacy. He emphasizes that while healthcare professionals typically rely on their verbal communication, a digital program can effectively utilize animations and graphics to convey crucial information, making it more accessible.

Dr. Miller elaborates on the digital application’s ability to utilize simplified language, addressing a common oversight among healthcare providers. He states, "We can also program a digital application to use easy to understand words, something I often forget to do as a doctor."

At the upcoming ViVE 2025 event in Nashville, Tennessee, mPATH will showcase its innovative solutions amidst other health equity pioneers. Topics of discussion will revolve around developing technology to improve health outcomes, specifically in cancer detection and care. The event will take place from February 16 to 20, 2025, with a winner announced during the conference.

Dr. Ruben A. Mesa, Executive Director of the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, states, “One of the best ways to decrease health inequities in cancer and decrease mortality across diverse and socioeconomically challenged populations is to decrease late-stage presentations by more robust cancer screening.”

Evidence supporting mPATH's effectiveness rests on rigorous trials funded by the National Cancer Institute, which investigated the expansion of colorectal cancer screening among primary care patients. Results indicated improved early detection rates, pointing to a significant impact on patient outcomes.

The Techquity for Health Coalition's definition of 'techquity' emphasizes the strategic design, distribution, and access to technology for advancing health equity. Their mission includes dedicated efforts to prevent the exacerbation of existing disparities in healthcare outcomes, serving as a guiding principle for technology innovation.

Eric S. Kirkendall, Deputy Director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation, applauds mPATH Health as a prime example of the collaboration between clinicians and technologists aiming to enhance healthcare for all, regardless of socioeconomic background or health literacy.

The evolution of mPATH Health reflects its goal to redefine preventive cancer screening by integrating automation and behavioral science. The company prioritizes personalized outreach, enabling individuals to take charge of their health and ensuring ongoing screening for earlier cancer detection.
