Shrub Oak International School Appoints New BCBA Coordinator
Shrub Oak International School is excited to announce the appointment of
Sophia Capozzoli, MS, BCBA, LBA, as its new
BCBA Coordinator. In her role, Sophia will be pivotal in leading the
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services at the school, particularly focusing on supporting students in the
Founders Cohort, while also extending her expertise across all student groups.
Sophia comes to Shrub Oak with over ten years of extensive experience in supporting autistic individuals. Her journey began as a
Direct Support Professional, where she developed a solid base in providing ethical and compassionate behavioral support. She achieved her BCBA credential in February 2020 and obtained New York State licensure later that same year, reflecting her dedication to professional growth and mentorship.
In her previous role at the
Anderson Center for Autism, Sophia supervised the behavior services team within the adult program. Her collaborative spirit has been showcased at the
New York State Association for Behavior Analysis (NYSABA) Annual Conference, where she presented on interdisciplinary efforts for three consecutive years—2023, 2024, and 2025. Alongside her supervisory duties, she has also played an important role in academia, supervising practicum students at both
SUNY New Paltz and
Empire State University and serving as an Adjunct Professor in the Master's Program in Applied Behavior Analysis at SUNY New Paltz in Spring 2025.
Sophia's interests extend beyond clinical practice. She is passionate about
applied research, particularly in translating evidence-based practices into real-world applications. Her goals also involve fostering ethical practice, effective supervision and training, and contributing to the advancement of the field of behavior analysis through collaboration and continuous learning.
Expressing her enthusiasm for joining Shrub Oak, Sophia stated, "I'm honored to be part of the Shrub Oak community and eager to collaborate with such a dedicated team to support our students through high-quality, ethical, and individualized ABA programming. I look forward to mentoring staff and helping our practices evolve in meaningful ways for the wonderful students and families we serve."
The excitement surrounding her appointment is shared by
Salam Soliman, PsyD, ABPP, Director of Clinical Services and Research at Shrub Oak. Dr. Soliman noted that Sophia's leadership experience with Behavior Specialists, Analysts, RBTs, and BCBA candidates will significantly enhance the school's ABA programming quality. Her commitment to ethical, data-driven practices will seamlessly integrate into the existing community.
