CKGSB Hosts Empowering MBA Training Program for Western China Professors

On December 17 and 18, 2024, the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) made significant strides in management education by organizing the Western China MBA Professor Training Program in collaboration with the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee and Shantou University School of Business. This year, the program welcomed 58 esteemed professors from over 40 universities, predominantly from the western regions of China.

Since its inception in 2007, CKGSB has dedicated itself to alleviate the educational disparities in management skills between Eastern and Western China through its MBA professor training initiatives. As of the end of 2024, the program has positively impacted 372 professors across 155 universities from 22 provinces, four autonomous regions, and three directly administered municipalities in China, thereby influencing tens of thousands of MBA students.

The focus of this year’s training revolved around social innovation and the concept of business for good. Many participants acknowledged this subject as a gap in their typical academic offerings. Professor ZHU Rui (Juliet), a leading figure in marketing at CKGSB and Director of the ESG and Social Innovation Center, spearheaded the training sessions. Through her innovative approach, she discussed how CKGSB is revolutionizing management education by embedding social responsibility within business practices, effectively reaching over 2,800 students who have begun to incorporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles into their businesses. Furthermore, Professor Zhu conducted an interactive workshop aimed at guiding participants on incorporating these concepts into their curricula.

In response to the training, many participants expressed how Professor Zhu's instructional methods and her ESG Assessment map provided a novel perspective on balancing profit-making with social responsibility. Throughout the program, participants shared their renewed inspiration on bridging the existing divide between academic research and practical implementation in the field of management education.

CKGSB's commitment to sustainable business practices and quality education has been recognized in its 2022 and 2024 ESG and Social Innovation Reports, alongside its honor as a finalist for the 2021 China Social Impact Award from the United Nations and the British Chamber of Commerce. The success of this training program serves as a testament to CKGSB's impact in fostering responsible business behaviors among future leaders. It also highlights the importance of partnerships with governmental agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions to promote quality education and mitigate inequalities.
