Greenville's New Community-Funded Home
On September 24, 2025, a ribbon cutting ceremony marked a significant moment for the residents of Greenville, California, as they celebrated the completion of the first community-funded home in the area. This landmark event, hosted by Paradise Affordable Homes and RRA Builders, represents more than just the construction of a house; it symbolizes hope and resilience for a community devastated by the 2021 Dixie Wildfire.
The fire left much of Greenville in ruins, with many residents underinsured and incapable of rebuilding their homes amidst a struggling local economy. Kelly Konzelman, CEO of RRA Builders, noted, "The rural community of Greenville in Plumas County was destroyed in the 2021 Dixie Wildfire. Many of those residents were underinsured and unable to rebuild, leaving hundreds of vacant burn lots and a devastated local economy."
This innovative project was made possible through a unique partnership involving local residents, the Welcome Home Greenville initiative, the Almanor Foundation, and the Plumas Housing Council. Through collaboration, RRA Builders was invited to bring its successful affordable housing solutions experienced in Paradise, CA, to assist Dixie Fire victims still grappling with recovery.
Recognizing the challenges that lay ahead, Konzelman remarked on the need for a new approach to financing recovery efforts in rural communities. He said, "We have created a completely unique approach to financing recovery in devastated, rural communities like Greenville, and this model can be replicated in any rural U.S. county affected by disaster."
The newly constructed 1,280-square-foot home features three bedrooms and was financed entirely by local community members pooled together for this purpose. The house is set to be sold at the developer's cost of roughly $285,000, with all proceeds being reinvested into the construction of additional low-cost homes. Community investors have committed personal funds, with an investment horizon of at least two years. As each new home is sold, the proceeds will be recycled into new high-quality, low-cost housing, thereby assisting further reconstruction of Greenville and stimulating local economic revitalization.
The Welcome Home Greenville project empowers local residents to collectively utilize their assets to construct new homes on previously burned properties. These homes will be offered at a price point that is approachable for young families, enabling a brighter future and restoring the vibrance of the community.
The grand opening and open house for this new home will take place on September 24, 2025, at 166 Hot Springs Road, Greenville, CA, from noon to 3 PM.
With extensive experience spanning over 40 years in construction, real estate, and investment banking, Kelly Konzelman currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Camp Fire Collaborative, a recognized organization facilitating recovery for disasters. The efforts of Paradise Affordable Homes and RRA Builders have already resulted in either completed or ongoing low-cost housing projects in Paradise and Magalia, CA, areas previously devastated by the 2018 Camp Wildfire.
In a world often shaken by unexpected challenges, the residents of Greenville are setting a compelling example of community solidarity and determination to rebuild and flourish. Your participation in further initiatives or support can help make Greenville an inspiring model for affected communities nationwide.
