Reactor Rescue: The Innovative Board Game That Inspires Engineering Skills

Discover Reactor Rescue: A Game-Changer in STEM Learning

In an era where families desire interactive, screen-free activities, Hape Holding AG, in collaboration with Labbox Education, has unveiled Reactor Rescue, a captivating board game designed to ignite a passion for engineering at any age.

The Inspiration Behind the Game

Conceived by sisters Arta and Fiona Shehu, both computer science engineers, Reactor Rescue aims to blend education with fun. Drawing from their teaching experience at jCoders Academy, they crafted this game to encapsulate the sensation of learning when concepts truly resonate. “We wanted to capture the click moment,” Arta shares, highlighting that this game caters not just to kids but to anyone keen on discovering the joys of building working electronic circuits.

Gameplay Mechanics

Set in the imaginative floating city of Electra, players adopt the role of engineers tasked with restoring power to their damaged spacecraft after a meteoroid storm. The objective? To successfully create functioning electronic circuits under time pressure. Each round lasts only two minutes, adding an element of excitement and urgency. Failing to complete a circuit on time means players must rapidly troubleshoot and adapt.

Unlike traditional board games that rely on mere strategy or luck, Reactor Rescue immerses players in real electronics. Utilizing actual components like LEDs, motors, and sensors, participants not only strategize but physically construct and test their circuits, reinforcing critical thinking and fostering resilience.

Educational Value

Developing foundational engineering skills has never been more engaging. As Arta emphasizes, the game is designed to be deeply rewarding, creating opportunities for hands-on learning and experimentation. It beautifully combines competition with problem-solving, proving to be an enriching experience for families, curious beginners, and even adults exploring the realms of electronics for the first time.

This board game caters to 1 to 4 players and is suitable for ages 10 and above, making it a perfect choice for diverse groups. It features multiple gameplay modes that adapt to varying skill levels, ensuring that newcomers to electronics can learn comfortably while also providing challenging scenarios for advanced players. With over 100 different circuit challenges, each game session promises to offer something uniquely engaging.

Launching Soon

Circle your calendars! Reactor Rescue is set to launch on Kickstarter on April 21, 2026, featuring special early-bird prices and unique rewards for backers. Media representatives, educators, and content creators are encouraged to seek early access for reviews and interviews before the official launch.
