Formlabs Unveils Next-Gen SLA Printing Materials for Resilient Production

Formlabs Unveils New Tough Resins for SLA Printing

Formlabs, a leading name in 3D printing based in Somerville, Massachusetts, has made a significant leap forward in additive manufacturing by announcing two new SLA (Stereolithography) printing materials on November 13, 2025. The introduction of Tough 1000 and the improved Tough 2000 resins allows users to approach mass production capabilities while enhancing the durability and robustness of 3D-printed parts.

These innovative materials are part of the Tough resin family that also includes Tough 1500 resin. Each of these resins is formulated to mimic the properties of high-performance thermoplastics, delivering high strength, excellent resilience, and the ability to withstand harsh environments and repeated wear.

The Tough 1000 resin, recognized as the most ductile and tough among the new family of resins, matches the qualities of HDPE (high-density polyethylene). It caters exceptionally well to applications demanding flexibility alongside toughness.

Meanwhile, the Tough 1500 resin strikes a balance between stiffness and compliance, making it comparable to polypropylene, while Tough 2000 resin leads the pack with its superior strength and rigidity, rivaling that of ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene).

Such advancements enable users to create parts that can endure demanding real-world applications with assurance. Max Lobovsky, the co-founder and CEO of Formlabs, emphasized, “Our goal has been to create a product that allows anyone to fabricate any part with a simple push of a button. What's crucial is that these parts exhibit the same durability and resilience as products we encounter daily. With the introduction of our new Tough resin family, users can now produce SLA-printed parts that deliver the strength and endurance of the world's most trusted thermoplastics.”

Early adopters of the new Tough resins are already experiencing the remarkable durability it offers in practical applications. Adam Warren, a mechanical designer for Cool Machines, stated, “Our parts for actual products must endure rigorous durability testing in sub-zero conditions. We put them under significant load, but Tough 1000 resin has held up impressively.”

Accelerated Post-Curing with Form Cure L V2

In addition to the new resins, Formlabs also unveiled the Form Cure L V2, a large-scale post-curing device designed for accommodating prints produced by large-format SLA printers, such as the Form 4L. The Form Cure L V2 can complete the post-curing of most prints in under 60 seconds, streamlining the post-process workflow. This innovative device has already shown significant improvements in prototyping and testing speeds in customer environments.

Agostino Lobello, a product development engineer at Radio Flyer, shared his excitement, saying, “I was surprised by how quickly we could achieve post-curing with all materials, including engineering resins. It has reduced our work time significantly, allowing us to deliver finished parts to engineers faster than ever before.”

New Features in PreForm 3.54 for Workflow Optimization

Further enhancing the user experience, PreForm 3.54 introduces new functionalities aimed at speeding up and simplifying workflows for both the Form and Fuse series printers. Notable updates include:
  • - Improved support generation algorithm (Supports V2)
  • - New measurement tools
  • - Enhanced CAD assembly import functionality
  • - Improved packing capabilities
  • - Enhanced user experience and navigation

These updates are designed to allow users to focus on more critical tasks such as design and troubleshooting rather than spending excessive time on support material generation or packing tasks.
