Introducing the Smart Bus Stop: A New Era of Public Transportation in Musashino City

A New Smart Bus Stop in Musashino City

Recently, a new "Smart Bus Stop" has been installed at the north exit of Kichijoji Station in Musashino City, brought to fruition through a partnership between YE DIGITAL and NEC Nexsolutions. This innovative bus stop will begin operations on November 20, 2025, at the Mu-bus stop labeled "Platform 0" outside Kichijoji Station in Tokyo.

This initiative celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Mu-bus, a community bus service that was initiated on November 26, 1995. Over the past three decades, the Mu-bus has become a key transportation service for residents, having served over 60 million passengers across Japan, setting a precedent for community bus services nationwide.

Improving Accessibility and Convenience

The introduction of the Smart Bus Stop aims to enhance the convenience for Mu-bus users as part of its 30th Anniversary commemorative activities. Previously, commuters faced difficulties understanding which routes to take or checking for bus delays at the Kichijoji north exit, which serves three different routes:

  • - Route 1: Kichijoji East Loop
  • - Route 2: Kichijoji Northwest Loop
  • - Route 6: Mitaka-Kichijoji Loop

With the Smart Bus Stop, passengers can now easily check the next buses and their departure times. Notably, the digital signage includes features that allow text enlargement, making it more user-friendly for individuals of all ages, particularly the elderly and those with children. The signage also supports multiple languages, ensuring that information is accessible for everyone. The thoughtful design incorporates familiar color schemes and easy-to-read format, greatly enhancing the usability of the Mu-bus service for residents and visitors alike.

What is a Smart Bus Stop?

The Smart Bus Stop is a significant advancement over traditional bus stops that used paper notices for their timetables and route maps. It utilizes a cloud-based system to distribute information directly to digital signage and electronic paper displays. Incorporating IoT and energy-saving technologies, these smart bus stops deliver a user-friendly experience for both commuters and transportation operators.

YE DIGITAL continually strives to improve public transport accessibility and supports technologies that foster a society where everyone can move freely and safely within their communities.

This initiative is not just about technology; it's about creating a better living environment for all who rely on public transportation. The changes at the Kichijoji north exit symbolize a pivotal shift toward smarter and more accommodating public transit solutions.
