Meijer's Very Merry Event Spreads Holiday Joy to Thousands Across the Midwest

Meijer Spreads Holiday Joy with Very Merry Meijer Event

The holiday season is often associated with joy, warmth, and generosity, and last week, Midwest retailer Meijer perfectly embodied this spirit. During its 12th annual Very Merry Meijer event, the company delighted nearly a thousand customers and team members throughout its stores across the Midwest.

Since its inception in 2014, the Very Merry Meijer initiative has come to symbolize the retailer's commitment to spreading happiness during one of the busiest times of the year. This year, Meijer leaders participated in the joyful celebrations by surprising random customers across its locations with generous gift card giveaways. Each lucky customer received a $1,000 gift card, while several of Meijer's dedicated employees were also rewarded with $200 gift cards.

Rick Keyes, Meijer’s President and CEO, encapsulated the essence of the event as he expressed, “Moments like these fill our stores with the spirit of giving and remind us why we do what we do — it’s all about thanking our customers and team members within the communities we proudly serve.”

Embracing the Community Spirit

The genuine stories shared by customers highlighted the impact of Meijer’s surprise gifts. For instance, in Columbus, Ohio, Store Director Jonathon Jones presented an unsuspecting customer named Nina, a single mother of three recently laid off, with the life-changing gift card. Despite her hardship, Nina had been selflessly serving families in her community that day, demonstrating the incredible strength and generosity of the human spirit.

Across state lines in Lincoln Park, Michigan, Store Director Neil Joiner selected Victoria, a caring aunt looking after her three young nieces and nephews through a challenging family scenario. This touching moment unfolded after Victoria shared her story about helping her sister navigate a divorce. Neil gifted her the cards, which sparked a round of heartfelt gratitude. In the midst of the excitement, Neil surprised Victoria’s young niece with five wrapped Barbies after she expressed her simple holiday wish, illuminating the importance of kindness during the festive season.

Acknowledging Team Members

Beyond rewarding customers, the Very Merry Meijer initiative also focused on celebrating their dedicated team members. In each of Meijer's stores, three employees were each gifted a $200 card, reinforcing the company's value of employee support. Kristina Nabors, Store Director in West Chester, Ohio, shared a poignant story about a team member diagnosed with cancer earlier in the year. Despite battling his personal struggles, this individual continually brightened the lives of others with his positivity.

Kristina seized the opportunity to present him and his wife, who also works at Meijer, with a card to assist them during this challenging time, illustrating the priority Meijer places on nurturing its own employees.
