Taste the Essence of Vietnam at Cơm nhà by Nén
Nén Tokyo, an outstanding modern Vietnamese restaurant located in Daikanyama, will unveil a new lunch project titled 'Cơm nhà by Nén' starting mid-November 2025. 'Cơm nhà,' which translates to 'home-cooked meals' in Vietnamese, encapsulates the spirit of returning home to share meals with family. This cultural tradition emphasizes the importance of lunch as a time for bonding and meaningful exchanges through food.
Redefining Traditional Family Meals
At 'Cơm nhà by Nén,' the culinary team aims to reimagine this cherished Vietnamese tradition within a modern restaurant framework. The essence of the experience can be summarized in the idea that 'eating means connecting with others.' Chef Summer, who leads this initiative, believes that food transcends simple nourishment—it fosters care, connections, and a sense of belonging. She expresses a desire to share the authentic meaning of 'Cơm nhà' with the Tokyo community through this project.
The 'Cơm nhà' experience is built around sharing, inviting families and friends to enjoy the array of flavors characteristic of Vietnamese home cooking. Key elements include a centerpiece of white rice complemented by various main and side dishes, as well as a harmonious soup that enhances each component's flavor. Chef Summer notes that this structure embodies the core of Vietnamese family culinary culture, creating a holistic dining experience.
A Focus on Vegan Cuisine
The project also highlights Vietnam's rich vegan culinary heritage, a reflection of the country's Buddhist influences. For years, vegan dishes, known as '素食' (natural food), have been staples in Vietnamese households. In 'Cơm nhà,' these principles are thoughtfully integrated to offer a Vegan Set menu, where the essence of traditional Vietnamese dishes meets a contemporary approach. Chef Summer aims to showcase vegan Vietnamese cuisine while honoring the traditional structure of its home-cooked counterparts.
Three key concepts guide this initiative:
Authentic,
Sharing, and
Belonging. Each dish is crafted meticulously to reflect these principles while emphasizing the warmth and charm of Vietnamese home dining. With an eye toward modernity, Nén Tokyo aspires to convey the power of sharing meals in connecting people, meticulously weaving these qualities into their service.
Additionally, the menu will rotate monthly with 2 to 3 new items, including seasonal specials, ensuring that guests can enjoy a varied culinary experience.

Meet Chef Summer
Originally from Da Nang, Chef Summer started a food blog during her student years, aimed at introducing Vietnamese cuisine to the world. After over a decade of sharing her knowledge, she established 'Nén' in Da Nang in 2017, followed by 'Nén Light' in Ho Chi Minh City. Her cooking style, enriched with deep cultural understanding, delivers not only flavor but also a narrative interwoven with social contexts. Summer also broadened her culinary perspective during her time at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Oita, Japan, where she was influenced by Japanese aesthetics and food culture.
