Taiwan's Smart and Sustainable Innovations Shine at EUROBIKE 2026



Taiwan is making waves in the cycling industry with its remarkable advancements in technology and sustainability, showcased during EUROBIKE 2026. The Cycling Health Tech Industry R&D Center (CHC), with backing from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), displayed a variety of innovative solutions aimed at promoting intelligent and low-carbon mobility.

One of the standout features presented was an AI-powered bicycle developed by CHC, which includes cutting-edge technologies such as dynamic cushioning and machine vision capabilities. With the supervision of the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), this bicycle uses machine vision to assess road conditions, providing real-time safety alerts while automatically adjusting electric assistance. This results in a safer and smarter riding experience.

The integration of the Cycling Common Protocol Alliance (CCPA) enhances connectivity among the motor, controller, battery, and electronic suspension fork, allowing for real-time communication. This innovation results in adaptive assistance control, automatic shifting, and coordinated vehicle responses. Furthermore, the electric bicycle features an advanced electronic suspension system that switches seamlessly between leisure and sporty modes, dynamically adjusting the cushioning based on riding conditions for optimized comfort and handling.

Beyond these technological advancements in smart mobility, CHC also highlighted progress on Taiwan's Zero Carbon Emission Promotion Program for the bicycle industry, spearheaded by the Industrial Development Administration (IDA) of MOEA. This initiative is focused on guiding the bike industry towards achieving net-zero emissions through greenhouse gas inventories, carbon footprint assessments, manufacturing process optimizations, material reduction strategies, and workforce development initiatives.

To facilitate this transition, CHC collaborated with the Bicycle Alliance for Sustainability (BAS) to develop roadmaps aimed at carbon neutrality and practical decarbonization guidelines for bike manufacturers. Currently, the BAS encompasses 76 member companies and is dedicated to enhancing sustainability across the entire bicycle supply chain, boasting a remarkable 89% implementation rate for greenhouse gas inventories.

Through initiatives such as the Global ESG Initiative Forums, carbon reduction case-sharing activities, and the publication of an industry white paper alongside Product Category Rules (PCR), this effort continues to bolster Taiwan’s position in the global green economy.

Additionally, CHC introduced its electric bike battery passport platform designed to aid compliance with EU Battery Regulations and the upcoming Digital Battery Passport requirements. The platform offers standardized management of battery lifecycle data, aiding manufacturers in readiness for future international market demands.

By merging advanced cycling technologies with frameworks geared towards sustainability, CHC exemplifies Taiwan's capability to lead in the next generation of smart, low-carbon mobility.
