The Brotherhood Sister Sol, known as BroSis, has been a pioneering force in the realm of youth development, community organization, and resilience training for over three decades. Recently, the organization expanded its board by welcoming three new members, signaling an exciting phase in its mission to empower the youth of New York City and beyond.
New Appointments
The newly appointed board members are:

Commitment to Youth
Khary Lazarre-White, executive director and co-founder of BroSis, emphasized their foundational belief that young people deserve equal opportunities and a supportive community. He stated, "Our work in BroSis is based on the belief that young people deserve to be guided, surrounded by community, and equipped with the skills necessary for success. Sheila, Holly, and Matthew are leaders who share this vision and the belief in the brilliance of youth and their power to lead."
For over 30 years, BroSis has provided long-term, holistic support to youths, empowering them with the skills and resources they need to thrive academically, in careers, and life overall. Their combination of education, mentorship, college access programs, career exploration, and community development significantly impacts thousands of young lives each year. The organization’s model is recognized nationally as a standard for youth development. BroSis has been at the forefront of social justice, educating, organizing, and training to challenge inequality and advocate for opportunities for all.
Voices of Experience
All three new board members bring unique perspectives that enhance BroSis’s mission. Sheila Adams James remarked, "BroSis combines compassion, vision, and strategy in a way that is rarely seen. It represents the bold, values-based work that we need more of. I am pleased to support this work and help promote a vision that genuinely uplifts youth and places them at the center of meaningful, sustainable change."
Holly A. Thomas added, "BroSis has an inspiring vision to educate and empower youth, one that is implemented with passion and joy. I am proud to serve on the Board in support of this vital work."
Matthew Gibbons stated, "The work that BroSis does to empower young people and transform communities is both urgent and inspiring. What attracted me to serving on the Board is its decades-long track record of real impact and innovation in youth development. It is a privilege to transition from supporting BroSis as an attorney to serving as a board member."
A Critical Moment for BroSis
These new appointments come at a crucial juncture for BroSis as it seeks to expand its impact, deepen its community connections, and fortify its capacity for creating pathways to success for young individuals. Paul Butler, co-chair of the BroSis Board, emphasized, "This is an important moment for our Board. Our new board members bring valuable experience and a shared belief in the power of youth.
