Midea Showcases Sustainable Innovations at IFA 2025 for a Low-Carbon Future
Midea's Commitment to a Sustainable Future at IFA 2025
On September 12, 2025, in Berlin, Midea made a strong statement at IFA 2025 by reaffirming its commitment to a sustainable future through the presentation of groundbreaking innovations rooted in its philosophy of "GREEN VISION, BLUE FUTURE." This event highlighted not only Midea's robust research and development capabilities but also its long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility in the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
One of the standout technologies introduced was the refrigerant R290, which Midea has been pioneering for over 15 years. As a forerunner in the global acceptance of R290, Midea opened its first demonstration production line with the support of the United Nations back in 2010. Today, the company operates 12 advanced manufacturing lines for R290 with an impressive annual capacity of 6.4 million units, demonstrating measurable reductions in carbon emissions worldwide through practical applications.
In addition to its manufacturing prowess, Midea plays a vital role in developing international standards for refrigerants, speeding up the introduction of R290 across the industry. Supported by a dedicated team of over 10,000 research and development experts and 42 pilot laboratories, Midea now offers a comprehensive portfolio of products utilizing R290. One notable example is the H-Pack hybrid heat pump designed for indoor use, created by Midea’s European research, development, and design team. By using R290, this heat pump boasts high energy efficiency and a compact design that eliminates the need for an outdoor unit. Its hybrid technology allows for seamless integration with gas boilers, ensuring reliable heating even in extreme cold conditions. This exemplifies Midea's vision of a greener future through innovative technologies.
Another significant highlight was Midea's flagship low-temperature air-to-air heat pump, named Raynor. Rated at an energy class of A+++ and achieving a peak SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) value of 5.1, Raynor stands out as one of the most efficient heat pumps available. Prototype testing has showcased its ability to reliably operate at temperatures as low as -40°C while maintaining full heating output of 5.0 kW at -25°C, with maximum output reaching 8.0 kW.
Designed for resilience and efficiency, Raynor is built to withstand the challenging conditions of Nordic coastal regions. It features advanced anti-freezing and anti-corrosion technologies, including specially coated radiators (Prime Guard Hyper Grapfins), a uniquely designed chassis with a heated base, and durable ceramic bearings (Flash Defrost) that ensure reliable performance even in extreme cold and dampness. This combination of durability, efficiency, and innovative design has garnered international acclaim, including the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. At IFA 2025, Midea's Vice President of Residential Air Conditioning, Vincent Chou, and the CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, Ralph Kobsik, accepted the Excellent Heating Technology Innovation Gold Award from IFA Management CEO Leif Lindner for Raynor, further underscoring its leading position among next-generation heating technologies.
Lastly, Midea introduced the AI-controlled Solstice air conditioning unit, featuring a 180° rotating deflector that subtly balances airflow for unparalleled comfort. Optimizing cooling and heating capabilities, Solstice is built around Midea's latest AI engine, ECOMASTER, trained on billions of data points to predict environmental changes and optimize energy consumption with remarkable accuracy. This system maintains perfect temperature comfort within ±0.3°C while reducing energy usage by over 30%.
In partnership with Microsoft, Midea also announced plans to develop natural voice control through AI technology based on Microsoft Azure, allowing users to communicate effortlessly with their air conditioning systems in any of the 145 supported languages without needing specific commands.
Midea's presence at IFA 2025 reinforced its strong focus on sustainable living. By leveraging advanced engineering, superior design, and market knowledge, Midea is leading the low-carbon transformation in the industry. The company continues to deliver energy-efficient solutions perfectly balancing environmental responsibility and daily comfort.
