Experience the Unique Ama-Azumi Strawberry

The charming city of Azumino in Nagano Prefecture is set to host a delightful collaboration event featuring the exquisite Ama-Azumi strawberry, a new variety of summer and autumn strawberries debuted last year. Organized in collaboration with the prestigious fruit specialty store, Shinjuku Takano, and Ginza NAGANO, this event promises a memorable tasting experience.

Location and Date

Scheduled for May 29, 2025, the event will take place at Ginza NAGANO. It consists of two sessions: the first from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM and the second from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. With a registration fee of 5,000 yen (tax included), participants will enjoy an exclusive menu showcasing the Ama-Azumi strawberry.

What to Expect

This is a unique opportunity to savor the sweetness of the Ama-Azumi strawberry, known for its distinct flavor and aroma, in a special menu prepared by the talented chefs from Takano Fruit Parlor. In addition to the delicious offerings, attendees will benefit from expert insights during a lecture led by the fruit artisans of Takano, who will demonstrate fruit cutting techniques and the art of assembling a strawberry parfait.

Moreover, participants will also hear from a strawberry cultivator directly from Azumino, sharing fascinating tales and insights about the development of the Ama-Azumi variety as well as local information.

About Ama-Azumi Strawberry

Often overlooked in favor of more traditional strawberry seasons, the concept of summer strawberries might not immediately resonate with many. However, Azumino is renowned for its unique summer-autumn strawberries, also known as “kashuu strawberries,” which thrive in the region's cool climate and the pure underground waters sourced from the Northern Alps.

For about two decades, JA Azumi has been championing the production and promotion of these seasonal delights. While summer-autumn strawberries generally possess a certain acidity, making them popular for use in cakes and desserts, the Ama-Azumi variety stands out with its sweet notes, low acidity, and a refreshing, vibrant fragrance.

How to Register

Spots are limited to 24 participants per session on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re intrigued by the prospects of the Ama-Azumi strawberry and wish to participate in this exclusive event, please visit the Ginza NAGANO website to register: Ginza NAGANO Event Registration.
