Bar Leone in Hong Kong Crowned the World's Best Bar 2026
In a prestigious event held in Milan on October 7, 2026, Bar Leone, located in Hong Kong, was awarded the title of The World's Best Bar, sponsored by Perrier, marking its second consecutive year in this esteemed position. The announcement came during The 50 Best Bars awards ceremony, which gathered the global bartending community to celebrate excellence in the cocktail scene.
Bar Leone, co-founded by Lorenzo Antinori, draws inspiration from traditional bars located in the Roman district of Trastevere. Rather than following fleeting trends or theatrical techniques, the bar's philosophy, known as Cocktail Popolari, focuses on genuine hospitality and impeccable beverages. The ambience combines vintage Italian references with a warm, neighborhood feel, establishing itself as a favorite among both locals and tourists alike.
Faye Huggett, Director of Community for The 50 Best Bars, expressed immense pride in Bar Leone’s achievement, highlighting that being recognized as the top bar in Asia was a remarkable feat. However, retaining the title for a second year emphasizes the profound influence of Cocktail Popolari. The list for 2026 included bars from 26 different cities and introduced 14 new establishments, showcasing the diversity and creativity of the global bar community.
Following Bar Leone in the rankings were notable competitors such as Moebius Milano from Milan at No. 2, Alquímico from Cartagena at No. 3, Bar Us from Bangkok at No. 4, and Line from Athens at No. 5. Each of these establishments has made significant contributions to the cocktail culture in their respective regions, reflecting the ongoing evolution and innovation within the industry.
The ceremony also recognized various other awards: Three Horses from Melbourne received the Campari One to Watch Award, while the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award went to Line in Athens. The Bar Mauro from Mexico City claimed the Disaronno Highest New Entry Award, making its impressive debut in 10th place. Additionally, the Bar in Front of the Bar in Athens took home the Nikka Highest Climber Award, ascending 28 ranks to land at No. 19. Paradiso from Barcelona was celebrated as the Rémy Martin Legend of the List, while Schmuck in New York was honored with the Three Cents Best New Opening Award.
Among other accolades, Takuma Watanabe was named the Altos Bartenders' Bartender, further showcasing the remarkable talent within the bartending community. The event not only serves to honor exemplary bars but also acts as a platform for inspiring bartenders to continue pushing boundaries and exploring the depths of cocktail artistry.
Bar Leone's success story is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and hospitality that drives the culture of bars globally. As the list continues to evolve and grow, it undoubtedly provides a glimpse into the future of culinary and mixology craftsmanship around the world.
