Exploring the Intersection of Light and Form in Mina Tabei's Upcoming Exhibition

Mina Tabei's Solo Exhibition: Light and Form and Its Surroundings

The Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg) in Tokyo is set to host a compelling solo exhibition titled "Light and Form and Its Surroundings" featuring the renowned art director and graphic designer Mina Tabei. This exhibition will run from September 5 to October 22, 2025, showcasing her journey and innovative designs in the world of graphic art.

Mina Tabei has made a name for herself in the creative industry, known for her ability to infuse elegance and warmth into her book designs and packaging. Her work is captivating, drawing attention without being overly flashy, and it possesses a unique charm that resonates with audiences. Through her designs, one can detect a cohesive style that speaks to what can be termed as "Tabei-ism," connecting all her creations in a meaningful way. At the center of her artistic approach lies the exploration of light and form, a focal point of the upcoming exhibition.

Having developed her career under the guidance of esteemed designer Kazunari Hattori, Tabei embarked on a path of independent artistic expression after establishing her own design studio. During this transition, she discovered the potential of integrating unconventional photographic elements into her designs, embracing the unpredictable nature of light and shadow. Her engagement in this artistic dialogue allows her to manifest accidental phenomena from the three-dimensional world onto the confines of a two-dimensional paper, creating works that often surprise even herself. This thrilling process of discovery, filled with physicality and excitement, finds its way into her creations, adding depth and intrigue that captivates viewers.

The exhibition will showcase the latest piece from her ongoing experimental work, "Light and Form," allowing visitors to experience it in an interactive environment. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to view notable pieces from her past graphic works, which include book designs, packaging, posters, and more, all crafted with a distinct identity. Through this dual presentation, the exhibition aims to delve deep into the essence of "Tabei-ism," revealing the philosophical underpinnings of her artistic vision.
