Huawei Unveils Four Groundbreaking All-Optical Solutions for AI-Driven F5.5G Networks

Huawei Unveils Four Innovative Optical Solutions

At the Green All-Optical Network Forum during MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Kim Jin, Vice President of the Optical Product Line at Huawei, introduced four groundbreaking all-optical solutions. These innovations are designed to support global operators in developing fully optical networks tailored for F5.5G, with an emphasis on artificial intelligence, thereby positioning them perfectly for success in the intelligence era.

The Surge of AI in the Optical Network Sphere

The booming AI industry is accelerating the commercial adoption of 10Gbps residential broadband and fully optical metro networks with a latency of just 1ms. Huawei's innovative solutions are positioned to provide global operators with a comprehensive toolkit for network deployment.

Boosting Access Networks and Capacity Enhancement

As AI adoption grows, CO (Central Office) systems need an upgrade to 50G PON for widespread access to 10GE. Last year, Huawei unveiled the MA5800T X17, the first intelligent OLT solution in the sector. Now, the additions of X15, X8, and X2 cater to varying capacity requirements. These new solutions possess the highest forwarding capacities in the industry, supporting high-density 50G PON. This advancement enables operators to construct robust networks capable of evolving over the next decade. A port density of 16 ensures seamless one-for-one inventory replacement. The new FAN Intelligent Engine architecture, working in tandem with NCE (Network Cloud Engine), optimizes user Wi-Fi services and dynamically plans computing resources as needed, thereby helping operators achieve “Network as a Service”.

Innovative Metro Network Developments

Building on last year’s launch of a fully optical AI-oriented metro architecture promising a 1ms latency for DCA (Data Center Access) and DCI (Data Center Interconnect), Huawei has now introduced the industry's fastest 2T single-wave board solution. With the new TFLN modulator, single-wave throughput has increased from 1.6Tbps to 2Tbps—lowering bit costs by 20%. Its ocean current energy-saving algorithm can automatically shut down idle operations based on real-time traffic, achieving up to 50% energy savings. Enhanced pre-detection capabilities can identify fiber delays early, allowing for effective delay mapping and service planning for AI.

Advancements in Backbone Networks

Huawei's OSN 9800 K series, launched last year, is the first OTN (Optical Transport Network) solution designed for DC (Direct Current). The newest addition, K12, supports a broader range of scenarios with a compact footprint. Utilizing an advanced FEC (Forward Error Correction) algorithm allows K12 to deliver 30% better performance and extend reach by 1,000 km for 800G. Optical rerouting times have been slashed from 10 seconds to 50 milliseconds using a fiber spectrum hybrid ASON (Automatically Switched Optical Network), optimizing costs while ensuring a network availability of 99.9999%. The introduction of dual-feed algorithms and rapid deduplication enables seamless switching for AI computation efficiencies.

Smart Management and Control with AI

Huawei's iMaster NCE integrates AI for intelligent management and control in fully optical access networks. The HBB agent proactively detects poor quality and swiftly resolves issues within a minute, reducing user complaints by 60%. For fully optical transmission, the digital map can predict network and service risks and can autonomously address problems within 15 minutes.

Kim Jin stated, “AI is rapidly transforming the world, creating unprecedented opportunities for optical networks. Huawei continuously innovates to help operators build AI-driven fully optical F5.5G networks, ensuring high quality and efficiency while harnessing new opportunities.”
