Unveiling the Excitement of CPR Disco's Inaugural Event
On August 10, 2025, recognized as "Heart Day," the club "ORD." in Daikanyama witnessed the electrifying debut of the CPR Disco, a unique blend of music and cardiac resuscitation training. This innovative club event was co-developed by party creator AfroMans (Riiichiro Nakama) from Afro & Co., and Gaskey (Yusuke Yamagata), an active nurse and board member of the Japan Fast Aid Society.
The idea of CPR Disco originated from the intriguing discovery that music played at a tempo of BPM 110-120 aligns with the proper rhythm for performing CPR, thus making this event a remarkable entertainment experience. It allows attendees not only to enjoy music but also to learn essential lifesaving techniques in an engaging setting. The event has been previously showcased at medical conferences, local gatherings, and outdoor festivals, gaining significant buzz for its revolutionary approach to education.
During its first solo event, attendees were treated to DJ performances featuring beats specifically tailored for CPR training. With around 100 participants, the main stage boasted specialized equipment for hands-on CPR simulation. Participants joyfully practiced "chest compressions at the correct rhythm" using water bottles and designated training devices, creating an immersive learning experience that let them "feel the pulse of the heart" firsthand. The DJs' BPM-restricted sets added a playful twist to the performances, with many expressing their delight at this unconventional challenge.
Among the featured DJs were DJ KOMORI, renowned in club circuits, and DJ TARO, known for his radio shows, both of whom energized the crowd with their music. The twin rapper unit Kamizuzuki Brothers enthusiastically engaged the audience with their call-and-response performance, shouting "CPR Say Ho!" and illustrating the fusion of healthcare and entertainment. Additionally, MPC player KO-ney showcased his improvisational skills by incorporating pre-sampled sounds of heartbeats and medical devices into his live performance.
An unexpected highlight was when Gaskey himself sampled the formal term for CPR, "Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation," and seamlessly integrated it into his music, captivating the audience further. Following the DJ performances, a mass CPR training session saw the crowd collectively practicing, bending and raising their bodies in time with the music, creating an unusual yet energetic atmosphere unique to this event.
In the lounge area, informative panels illustrated the history of CPR Disco, allowing attendees to reflect on the journey leading to this point. The event concluded with a group photo of all performers and participants, embodying the spirit of community and commitment as they pledged for next year's sequel.
Looking Ahead: The Future of CPR Disco
Continuing its mission to cultivate a culture of lifesaving, CPR Disco aims to foster more frequent events, with plans already underway for the second iteration on August 10, 2026. Maintaining the core concept of learning lifesaving actions through enjoyable experiences set to BPM 110-120, the upcoming event will strive to enhance participant engagement, allowing more attendees to intuitively connect and retain the knowledge they acquire.
Additionally, CPR Disco seeks sponsors and collaborative partners to help expand this lifesaving culture. Medical professionals, educational institutions, community organizations, and brands are all welcome to join as partners in this significant initiative.
